Once upon a time, there was a guy on SLi that owned a BD...he had some big dreams for it...

Unfortunately, those dreams fell short. He traded the BD for a 2003 Dodge Dakota 4x4. He needed a truck, and honestly got hit with the new car bug. Stupid, stupid boy.

Of course, the mod bug hits. Getting 14mpg stock, it couldn't get much worse. He lifted the truck, and has put some decent money into the little Dakota, but that's ok...it's taken him places...

He loves that truck, regardless of it being a piece of **** that gets 11mpg, but he decided that while it was not time to move on, it was time for a daily driver...something with better fuel economy, handling, and comfort. As many here know (I guess they're still here), the subie world has been calling his name for a long time. He's always wanted something, but had kind of lost hope. Full-time school on top of full-time work and a lot of commitments, and there was just no time.

So there I was at work...bored. I bought an ad bulletin with intention of looking for an apartment. Apparently, my friend felt he was more entitled to the real estate section of my paper, so I ended up just looking through the automotive section, just for something to do. Imports, 5th ad down, "Subaru Outback. Needs a lot work. $700 ###-####." Wow...I had to call, and I had to see it, so I did. Unfortunately, I was at work, and worked 0900-2300 for the next two days. I was afraid I wouldn't get this thing after talking to the guy...he said a few people had called about it, but said that no one had actually come to see it because it probably needed a new motor...easy enough to replace.

I finally had a day off today, so I went to see it. I got there and found a completely rust free BG. The guy came out and started the car for me so I could hear it. You know that tick that these motors get when the HLA's go bad? That's what I heard, so I asked if that was it. He replied, "Yeah, but it gets worse sometimes." About that time the A/C kicked on and a heat shield started rattling, to which he yelled, "There it is! That's it!" I wanted to laugh at the guy, but I kept my composure and offered $600. He took it and signed the title over.

So it needs a tune-up and some cosmetic work. I need to source a bump strip for the front passenger's side door, work on some dents and dings, buff some paint scuffs, and either source a new driver's side rain guard, or figure out how to remove them all together. I'm going to go get plugs, plug wires, air and fuel filters, and an oxygen sensor tomorrow morning. I'm planning to pull the motor and replace the rear seal and both valve cover gaskets when I can, as they're all leaking oil. While it's out, I'll probably do the headgaskets, timing belt, and water pump.

Haha...service center my ass. I did a full tune-up and an oil change, then registered it Wednesday and I've been driving it everywhere since. The exhaust leaks and rattles like a mutha, but I'll get it changed soon enough. Needs an O2 sensor so it'll stop spitting and sputtering and all that jazz, but I love it anyways. I can't believe how much I enjoy working on a subie, but HATE working on my truck. Subie's are like lego's you know?
