what would my best bet be for a suspension upgrade on a 2nd gen legacy wagon im looking for a sportier auto-x feel to the suspension ive read that the 02-05 imprezas can be swapped over but would this still be the same for a wagon.

yes you can, but there are also drawbacks. saggy butt being the most common with OEM WRX parts

search around some more, there is plenty of info on WRX suspension parts on 2nd gens.

In my opinion there's only two choices for you

1) 04STi shocks and springs (i have the same setup, it's a great setup ad relatively cheap)
2) Bilsteins from a Gen2 JDM GTB

-both have similar ride height (about 15mm lower than stock)
-both give no bum-sag in a wagon
-the STi stuff is a little stiffer

both are about ~$300-> $400

yea i was reading about the 04 sti spring and shock set up and i think that would be awesome. im not completely off coilovers but they seem to finicky to start out with. how would i go about sourcing jdm gtb bilsteins?

im about to put sti springs and wrx struts from an 04. im worried about the sag but i heard about spacers to put in the back to bring it up ( now i just need to find those spacers)

did robbks not say that the 04 sti suspension wont give you butt sag? im a little confused here

the STi has stiff enough spring rates to not give you sag as such.
however, due to the larger and higher front wheel arch opening, it still gives the appearance of the lower rear end.
the floor of the car is actually perfectly parallel with the road surface.

I added 3/8" spacers (as linked above) to the rear of mine to give it the same distance from teh top of the tyre to the lip of the guards
click the link in my signature for the latest pics

however, in a sedan you don;t usually need the spacers due to the lighter rear end

i've also got the sti shocks and springs in my gt wagon and am extremely happy with the set up. i've got coilovers in my bd9 because i use it more on the track but they are bloody stiff and wouldn't recommend them for a daily
