Legacy VZ Type R?

Firstly excuse any stupid questions or things that should "go without saying" or should be common knowledge that I ask about, this is the first time I have owned a subaru.

I recently got myself a tidy little 92' Legacy VZ Type R, and was just curious... what the type R means? Is it to do with racing? Should I be taking this car up to 5k rpm on most intersections? Or is it just a fancy little phrase they put on the back to make me think i have a superior version of a standard legacy?

i dont know. but it sounds bad ass. we dont have VZ type anythings here in the states.

From what I have gathered the VZ Type R was the VZ (with an NA EJ20) with a GT suspension, upgraded 15" wheels and tyres, and possibly brakes from the GT.

The wagon version of it got an EJ22G I believe.

yeah i thought the VZ Type R was the slightly face lifted MY92 VZ N/A Legacy. It came with 15" BBS rims and trunk spoiler as standard. It was also fitted with a EJ20 SOHC for the sedan and EJ22 for wagon??
