hey guys, my father is looking for HIDs for his 06 outback 2.5i

he is not looking for anything "ballin"

he simply wants brighter lights as he is on the road alot.

he also would like not to hack up his harnesses, is there something plug and play out there? or have i just seen the cheap ones?

obviously i can handle mounting ballasts etc.

i know some subarus have factory HIDs, can you get those goodies and put them onto one that was not equipped originally?

he is looking for the most light output he can get, and i understand if you go to blue you lose lumens, what K would you recommend to be the brightest?

also want to stay away form the ebay cheapies.

so if anyone knows a plug and play quality brand...

thoughts and advice welcome!

thanks!

www.ddmtuning.com (http://www.ddmtuning.com)

those are the best hids ive yet to come across, they are around $40 shipped and come with a lifetime warranty...

they sell their kits without a middleman so prices can stay cheap, i talked to the guy who owns ddm when one of my lights went down a few days after i got the kit, he sent me a new kit free..

for the brightest light, get the 5000k temperature, pure white light, go any higher and you'll start having a blue tint

along with the op questions, whats the take on putting them in stock housings? i've heard some people say its not a good idea, then i've seen others say its fine.. confusing, anyone with them in stock, or with them in projectors care to chime in? I mean, i know the projectors would be better, but why is it a bad idea to put them in stock headlights?

thanks!

on the 06's they have what looks like a projector lens, but a regular bulb behind it.

are these called projectors? or what?

a bad idea to put them in reflector housings because they burn at high enough temps that it is possible to melt the lenses, and also the beam patterns will be scattered all over the place, blinding other drivers,

the 06 models have projectors, just normal bulbs

I've used the DDM ones in the past as well. Had some bulb issues but they swapped out the bulbs with no hassle.

You can probably get away with the HIDs behind the halogen projectors. They won't be in focus, but even halogen projectors usually have a good enough cutoff to keep from blinding people.

Either that or you can retrofit some HID projectors in for the best possible light.

And 4300k has the highest lumen output you can get. 5000k I believe is the highest temp you can get without having tinted bulbs. The difference in color temp and brightness between 4300 and 5000k will be nearly undetectable by eye.

Also 55 watt 5000k will look whiter than the 35 watt kits. The higher watt kits kind of ALMOST look like the next temp up. DDM's website explains this.
