Headers to muffler
Has anybody here used or heard of someone using one?
Sarra has something like that

Pretty pricey... Unless you were building a high HP N/A motor I would spend the money on other things and OBX headers or something along the lines.

Yeah thats what I figured. I might just go for sound until I can afford an engine swap.

If you can only get the parts new, the OBX EL headers gives similar gains but for 1/3rd the price. I had a TWE header when my car was still NA. It was a good upgrade, really helped with the mid to high range revs, ie instead of being deadass slow trying to accelerate in 5th, it made it just a little slow

I have decided to go for borla headers, Stromung Cat, and Stromung Muffler. Just having trouble finding a cgeap 18in resonator and mid pipe. Any suggestions for the mid pipe?
I heard that borla headers with the stromung cat will still give a decent gain in hp but also a 6-9% increase in fuel economy. Not to mention sounding amazing with the stromung muffler. I figure I'll just do some minor mods to this engine since it's high milage and start saving for body and interior pieces as well as for an STI swap.
Or if I win the lottery a Turbo'd Subaru Cosworth 2.5L to drop in there.

save your money and don't bother with the stromung catback. Just get a muffler place to bend something up past the HF cat. One thing, you'll need to hack whatever exhaust you'll be running to mate it to a turbo DP anyway. And I dunno, stromung makes a nice exhaust, but if youre serious about saving money like you are saying, $600 for a catback that's mostly for sound anyway isn't the best fiscal solution. It's also a small diameter for a turbo engine down the line.
Just face it, even with the $2000+ twe system, youre only looking at like another 15-20hp at best. Just get the exhaust sorted, focus more on handling and stopping since those two will need to be beefed up once you've got that engine swap in...it just pays dividends to do it now- at least thats how I've approached modifying my car.

It's actually $359 for the cat. I am not going for a high hp system just for sound really. and a 6-10 hp increase is just a bonus. If I ever go turbo I'll spend the cash for a nice EL setup and sell of the one I am building now.
I just am having trouble finding a good mid pipe with resonator. I have only found the TWE one which is 350 ish. I have a feeling I can get one for much cheaper since I am not going for a high hp system.
I don't mind shelling out a bit over a grand for something I can sell on and it's a good bit cheaper then the $2.5k at least for a full TWE system. Thats the point I was trying to make. I just want it to last till my engine goes which could be another 100k

er... just reread..... you thought i ment catback. How much do you think a exhaust shop would charge for a mid pipe with resonator?

its a tube with a resonator in the middle. My entire catback ended up costing around $250 for reference. $150 materials&labor tops for a midpipe.

Sweet. I am also going to go for some borla knock offs. at least i think these are.

They should give the same performance/sound as the real borlas right?

That header is for a turbo subie
For your N/A motor, I think your looking for something like these

ok thanks... I thought they looked weird. I found some headers for $109 but the exit of the headers was 2.5" instead of the 2.25" that is recommended. Or does that matter?

You won't find another size.

I would start making friends with you local muffler shop. I am getting the headers that subie/legacy put up, and my friend is going to do the rest for me, so I am looking to spend about $450 for a complete header back system, including a cat.
Unless you have money to burn, and you just wanna do bolt on stuff, find a good muffler shop. Once you get the turbo motor and whatnot in, then you can sell the whole custom exhaust and probably recoup some of the money that you have spent.

Will it really showcase that boxer sound? I just don't want my leggy to end up sounding like all the civics that go by my apartment.

Done right with a UEL header, you will get that signature boxer sound.
subie/legacy

yes you will achieve the "boxer rumble" like DarkPhoenix stated. It's the UEL header that does most of that.
a good muffle will help (heard good things about vibrant). A resonator is a must if you don't want to sound raspy like all civics we love so much.
you should probably wrap your header to add/help the rumble.
2.25 exhaust piping is what most will recommend. don't go any larger then 2.5.

Check out my members ride thread. I should have a sound clip. I Have a 2.2 Borla UEL single port header, 2.5" staineless steel piping, resenator and a fart can. I love how it sounds. I'll make a new clip when I get it back, I'll have dual port heads and Delta cams, hoping it will sound a little meaner!
