when it gets below 60*F i cannot change which direction the air blows from. i will change it to it blowing at my face, when it is warm out, then it cools down and i forget to switch it then i have no defrost or feet, just blows at my face. i am sure that someone else has had this problem. i think it is just a vacuum hose or something easy, but i would like to have a place to start. thanks in advance. it is in the 98 outback

Is it only when its below 60 degrees? All other times you can control the vents?

Is it only when its below 60 degrees? All other times you can control the vents? i haven't had the car for a year, but now to think of it is has kind of done that since i got it.
i got a new battery and it started working again, that was a little over a week ago that i got a battery, and it was working, now it is not working again as of 3 days ago, so i am going to have the battery checked, and the charging system checked again today. my brother has a friend who had a rebuilt alternator in a toyota pickup that would give both good and bad readings depending on where you took, so i think that might be my problem. also it it was around 70*F yesterday so i don't think it is a weather related issue. this might need to be moved to the electrical section.

Mine does that too. Will randomly not be able to change the blow direction of the HVAC, I think sometimes turning the blower off then on again helps.

i figured out if you turn the car off then back on in the desired position it will work.
