So the check engine light came on today and took it to a local shop that we have used a couple of times. They said one of the sensors on the the converter set off the check engine code. it looks like they cut out rust and just welded in some straight pipes and now it's messed up. They quoted me at $2,216 which strikes me as quite high. Do you all have any suggestions or experience with this?

They said I'd have to replace everything from the cats back everything but the headers actually

That sounds like they are using OEM parts, because Subaru Cats are ridiculously expensive.

From the stealership, it is $960 list for the front cat and $599 for the rear. If you are throwing in the rest of the exhaust and sensors, $2200 sounds about right. Find a muffler shop, get an OBX header, an aftermarket cat, and a muffler, and call it a day. You will spend about $600 that way, and get a performance gain, along with the "rumble"

Yeah It's a local shop but I think they are using oem parts. I am checking out a place on yelp that has 38 5 star reviews for good parts and excellent prices. I'll keep y'all updated

Ok, this new place just quoted me between 1,135 and 1,450.

Sill searching..... trying to find a good custom shop now and get a quote for that.

Do they include the resonators, cat(s), and muffler? If so, that isn't a bad deal.

yes it does. I am going to wait though as my next emissions inspection isn't due for another year. i'll save up and get him to do a t-304 system. which came out to $950

Custom built is the way to go... That's if the shop you bring it to knows what they are doing.

I will probably just get him to do the cat mid-pipe and resonator as it will be the same price either way. I figure if I am going to pay the price might as well get the good stuff.
