are DDM HIDs any good? or are they too good to be true at only 60$ for a set?

Yes they are great HIDs... Cant beat the Lifetime warranty for the price! Only negative thing about DDM is they are the highest ordering company of HIDs so it does take a couple weeks to get counting on your location.

Ill be getting a set for another make. They offer a discount for, as they also sponsor a site them. On the same site, they have their own section that they're quick on replying.

And like others have posted, anything with a (trusted) warranty is a good thing.

Obviously you're not getting anything super high quality, but they are great for the money. I haven't tried them myself but they started on bimmerforums and I've been there for years so I know all about them. I watched them drop from $120+ to where they are now, with only slight changes, name included.

I didn't want to name drop, but what he said explains my post a bit.

I also got my M3 front cover from the same place with good results... if that helps any.

Yeah well i spent $260 on a set for my TT Supra, and a $40 set just to match them up... Didn't notice one difference in lighting output.

Hey I'm considering HID's for my 2003 BE Legacy. Questions:

1) My buddy has recommended www.sharphid.com (http://www.sharphid.com). Over there I'm looking at 35w H1 lows and 55w 9005 highs, total $110. Anyone have experience with Sharphid vs. DDM?

2) How do the HID's work with the daytime running lights on a 2000-2004 BE? Dimmer light like the normal headlights? Bright light? Shortened lifespan? Any other issues with DRL's?

OK to kind of answer my own question, the SharpHID site I listed is a reseller of the DDM products. SharpHID charges more but offers free shipping; DDM charges less but adds shipping - so pretty much the same $$/product for all intensive purposes.

In regard to DRL's: SharpHID said the addition of a battery harness should cure the problem, while DDM said disable them. Anyone here try the harness? I'm assuming I can go search for DRL disable directions.

I wouldn't suggest HIDs for high beams unless it is a bixenon setup (low/hi beams on one bulb). Switching HIDs on/off at rapid intervals (like you do with high beams) pretty much ruins them.

I've used DDM HIDs on several different models. I've had to use the warranty before, but it was pretty easy and they don't really argue. Quality of the HIDs is pretty good considering they are cheap, Chinese HIDs, but they aren't OE quality.

So question... I am looking to get the 55w slim ballast system... I have JDM projectors in right now.

Do I need to get the "dual-in/dual-out" connector for an extra $12.50?? I dont plan on putting HID in my highbeams (yet  ). The guy at DDM said that the 55w HID system is going to be drawing more power than the stock H1 halogen so he said it was a good idea but not necessary.

Also... If I have my lowbeam grounded to keep my projectors on with the high beams, will there be any issues with having them stay that way once the HID is in???

Thanks!

yea, your lows with the 55s in them are going to be waaaaay brighter than ur high beams. as far as your question goes idk.. i dont have the projector lenses.. the jbm head lights are outragously priced if you can find them haha

i paid 600 bucks for the projectors in my truck and my lights i got now are 10 times brighter

and the DDM lights only make use of one head light socket plug from you car. that one plug controls the relays that turn both ballasts on and off, along with controlling the bulbs hi/low feature in my car

harrymaneuvers
08-25-2010, 05:44 PM
Ok. So anyone know whether my low beam will continue to stay on with my high beam once I install the HID???

08-25-2010, 08:04 PM
^ i dont know if thatll make too much of a difference in light output...

i mean, the low beam hids (i have 6000k) are plenty bright enough to blind deer and laser zap bugs flying by, putting it in the reflector housing of the highbeam would result in a more spread out light instead of the beam of the projector.. if that makes sense

plus when both low and hi are powering hids at the same time, it may result on dimming

jewbaru

i dont think youll ever need to use your high beams anymore lol.

A friend told me if i'm gonna upgrade to HID, I should wait and get projector lights first........and not add them to the stock style housing.

Any thoughts on this?

Honestly, I don't like the looks of the projector headlamp assembly. If I thought I'd still see the benefits of a 6K HID, I'd keep the lights I have.

08-30-2010, 06:30 AM
youre friend is right, youll benefit waay more with them in projectors.

reason is that when hids are in reflector housings, the beam pattern is sporadic and as a result of that, less light actually hits the road

another problem could be the heat that the bulbs generate melting the housing or lense of the reflector

Ive got 4300k hid projectors in m truck and I got 6000ks in my stock housings in my leggy. Honestly I think my leggy is brighter. The projectors will give you a clean cut off line and stop you from blinding others, they give you a more straight forward projection. But my stock houseings throw out enough light that I get flashed all the time when I'm driving around at night. Far as melting. It happens more often with fog lights than headlights cuz the lenses are closer to the bulbs than in headlights. Depending how much money you want to spend. Id just go with a nice hid kit and use ur stock lights. If your worried about it being to bright opt for a 35watt style bulb than a 55watt bulb. I'm running 55watt 6000k hi/lows from DDM and I couldn't be happier

I thought HIDs bulbs burn colder and less power then Halogens...

I do want to run some pure yellow lights in my Fogs but they take the 9006 halogens.

DDM offers 3000k HIDS in a 9006 bulb, 3000k will be yellow, and best of all, they are only $25 now

They use less energy when they are warmed up but actually use more energy for the 1st 10-15seconds on startup. Thats why most suggest not to use the stock halogen headlight harnesses on HIDs. My old DDM HIDs used 10A@14V on startup, which is about 25% more than the stock halogens. They also produce less heat overall, its just focused in a much smaller area. I've never seen a lens melt from HIDs.

You're getting flashed because lenses designed for halogens (either reflector or projector) have an incorrect beam for HIDs because the focus is off. Your lights are creating a lot of glare, similar to driving with your high beams on. HIDs in halogen housings create a safety hazard because, despite the fact that you can see better, you are blinding anyone who is in front of you. I don't know about other places, but the cops around here are really cracking down on illegal HID installations. That's one of the reason I spent the money on a proper HID retrofit using OE HID parts. Technically it still isn't legal, but its really unlikely I'll get busted for it because it looks and functions as good as an OE setup.

Sorry, but this attitude is plain stupid. When people that throw HID's into their halogen reflector headlights, they are creating a safety hazard for everyone on the road.

^ was pretty much thinking the same thing. its one thing if it putting in HIDs and it "works" (never get flashed, no ridiculous glare) it's another all together if you know you are blinding people consistently and don't do anything about it. or at least man up and take their flashes, you flashing them back is just blinding them more. It's your fault you are blinding them, no need to be rude about it.

I have HIDs in my JDM projectors for over a year now with no issues of being flash. I just adjsuted them point straight and they seem not to bother anyone. They are also brighter than my high beams at this point. When I do get them and if I were to get flashed I would hit em back too, Im a dick like that too I guess. So regards mistaken low beams for highs because they are idiots and stare at the light. You are supposed to look at your passenger side front corner. But they also said if Americans who have their license would retake the test most people would fail. HIDs in projectors properly adjusted and you are fine, people are idiots mystery solved.

but hey, they work for me, everyone else will just have to deal with it for the time being. if they are too bright, just dont look at them, or piss me off and i wont bother you with them. theres no need for haters.
