sorry if this is a newbish question but im currently looking at this 2nd gen legacy wagon 5 speed and it doesnt have a tach. im guessing its because its the base model but that doesnt mean i cant install an aftermarket tach right? like the speedo linkage from the trans will still be there so its just a matter of buying one and wiring it up? also im not to sure on the trim it would be the L model? does this come with front and rear disks or rear drum, would the engine be sohc or dohc i want to make this into a project that can be later autox'd and dont want to be worrying about these performance bits. sorry about not doing my homework and thanks for your time.
Tach should read the engine speed, not the speed sensor on the transmission. You can wire in a tachometer to the engine speed signal at the ECU.
You have the Brighton trim. They come with rear drums and the EJ22 SOHC motor.

i believe that if you find a 2nd gen legacy cluster you can just drop in the tach part and voiia it works

a legacy gauge cluster, but i was hoping some other member would chime in on if that's all you'd need
