he doesnt think the valves went but were not sure...it drives just not good so i think the timings just off...hes from jersey and AAA wont tow it to his house for free...also hes buying an impreza sport and doesnt wanna bother with his legacy...for $175 thats a good deal

New belt 130, set or heads 150-200 (doubt you will be able to just get one). I would say go for it if the mileage is good. Fix up the motor, sell it and them swap it!

Sure, sounds like a steal for $175. Just by parting it you could easily make your money back, and if you did decide to keep it, either a new timing belt or another used motor and it'll be back in business.

timing belt is new and still good...the timing just slipped
it comes with a new head to fix so if the valves are bent i would just need to make a junkyard run

Is this the one that had the Neon?
Do the water pump too while the whole thing is apart.

If he is a friend he would just give you the car and not give you a headache and charge you for it.

Yeha that would be cool just give it to ya and then down the road just give him something. maybe he could use a car part etc. when hes doing his build and be like hey let me get that for ya friend.

its not the one with the neon, hes keeping that car.
i go to college in central pa with this friend and hes from new jersey. hes buying an impreza sport wagon so he doesnt want this car
i talked to him and another one of my friends from college that works at a harrisburg subaru dealership so im buyin the car, figuring out where to get the title transfer, then my dealership friend is gonna fix it at college and i could probably drive it home, if not then i need a car trailer.
still for $175 for a car and its gettin fixed for free is a steal. i cant get him parts cause he knows about junkyarding

All I read was the first post, but theres no question, $175 that car should be at your house right now. Even if you couldn't fix it you can part it out and make your money back and then some. If you have a place to keep the car. I would buy it if it were local.

im getting the title transfered tomarrow, its getting fixed monday and if its not fixed i found a trailer to bring it home. the policy in my town is that only licensed running vehicles are allowed in yards so i can't really part it out lol
it runs and drives but very poorly because of the timing so itll work out

Is it illegal to have a car in your yard that doesen't run?
GTDrifter
05-02-2010, 10:06 AM
yes...its the ordinance...the only way around it is to put a for sale sign on it and ask a ridiculous price
Legacy89

Do that then, if i could find legacy's for that price here i would have my yard full. Lowest price here is 250 and they usually aren't drivable.

fixing it...if my girlfriend ends up with it thats fine...if not then its forester springs and rims, foglights on the roof, retinting the windows (cause hes taking it off), and probably a tow kit and I think thatll be good

well the valves are probably bent so i am in desperate need of finding a trailer to haul it...anybody on here or know someone from around the pottsville or williamsport area that has a car trailer i can borrow?
dont say uhaul cause they wont rent to ford explorers lol

Really I went down to pick up a trailer the first time with my buddies Kia. As long as there is a 5,000lb towing capacity they should rent.

i asked and he said there was some legal issue with it all so he couldnt do it

its misfiring in cylinders 1 and 3. theres exhaust coming out of the intake so im pretty sure the valves are bent. i figured out how to remove the head but how do i remove the valves? is it just undo the bolt or what?

did you put the timing right before you tore the engine apart? i thought 96 2.2 was a non interface so it would be impossible to bend valves so all you do is set it right and drive away, to get the valves off you have to get a valve spring compressor i think
dont say uhaul cause they wont rent to ford explorers lol
But you can rent a trailer AND truck from u-haul...

just looked at the part hes supplying for free...it has the valves on it so all i have to do is take the throttle body off, the valve cover, and the head and reassemble with the new head, get a new timing belt and probably crank belt and it will hopefully run

and headgasket
legacy98gt
05-04-2010, 01:25 PM
but im pretty sure its not and interface engine so you shouldnt have bent valves, try just putting the belt back on the right way and it should be fine
GTDrifter
05-04-2010, 01:31 PM
either way i gotta get new seals and a new belt because oil got in it so what could be happening is the belt just stretching and constantly throwing timing
oh and i need to throw on an exhaust...my friend is giving me his brand new cherry bomb because it didnt fit his truck...im a lucky individual

05-04-2010, 01:36 PM
