not to mention 2.5mpg's better without it. when it comes time to track/auto-x it i'll probably throw it back on since it is functional

YOUR FRONT BUMPER IS SICK

what did you do to it exactly?

twistedautoworks
05-31-2010, 04:17 PM
the front bumper is a stock gt bumper, only things i did were.

1. in the center section of the bumper, i enlarged the main opening by 2".. cut a 2" strip above the upper opening, used bumper adhesive to reinstall the original opening top and put some extra plastic i had to fill in the 2" chunks missing on each side.

2. looked and looked for something to use for a bezel for the hella 700ff lights, which ended up being some 8" schedule 80 pvc pipe. this was trimmed and fit into the bumper which was kind of a pain but was worth it. those were also grafted in which bumper adhesive (fusor 114 if your curious)

3. chopped off the upper half of a mk3 jetta bumper, trimmed and smoothed the sides a little bit and screwed it to the bottom of the bumper.

other than that, its stock

Nice work. I would like it more if the lights were a lil more flush with the bumper.
Still looks good.. damn good

twistedautoworks

yeah me too, i recently hit a rock and cracked my bumper a little bit, i'm going to be trimming up the "bezels" and moving the lights back some. should still look really aggressive from the front, but will be more appealing from the side as i agree, it sticks out a bit further than i would have liked. but like most one offs, its trial and error.

didnt need the rear diffuser. i already jizzed mine.

do you rub a lot with your wheel setup?

twistedautoworks
06-02-2010, 03:52 AM
right now the fenders are rolled semi-aggressively it doesn't rub very bad at all. the fronts are no problem, the rears i've had it rub once or twice (taking corners fast and hitting bumps). i've left my camber settings stock, so i'd assume that with a degree or two i could eliminate all problems

i see. i'm looking at getting the drag 31 rims in 17x9 +37 for my BD and wasnt sure if it was too agressive for the car to clear the struts or make it rub all night long. so i guess if im going to do that, im going to have to get some aftermarket suspension since im still on stockers

If you have stock 15x6 then you'll be 20mm closer to the struts and you'll go out 56mm more.

Get under your car and see if you have 20mm to spare between your wheels and strut. But, PLEASE do this!

wow. that site is very useful. if only i knew the offset of my stock 5 spokes :smt021 . im not new to cars but am new to the subie scene. would anybody who knows it be kind enough to tell me the offset and how much it weighs?

twistedautoworks

well some specs are as follows... these are for 95-99 legacy wheels

14x5.5 +55 offset
15x6 +55 offset
16x6.5 +55 offset

with that thrown into the tire offset calculator above you should be able to calc exactly where your new wheels will sit. there is no doubt in my mind that with the right offset you can easily put a 9" wheel into our wheel wells.. Mine are 8.5 with minor work and a low offset. There is a fair bit of clearance still between the wheel and the strut. Good luck!

putting those 17x9 +37 on your car will be a stretch, just saying... basically where my wheels are at now, yours will stick out another 7mm. you would need a super aggressive fender roll at the very least (you'd end up really cracking the paint around the wheel wells) possible you would need some sort of flare (which would look awesome) camber in (which i've never been much a fan for since then you eat up expensive tires) and most likely have to stretch a smaller tire size to give your sidewall more angle rather than being squared off... (235ish)

thanks for the wheel offset info. i come from tuning nissan 240sx s-chassis for drifting and we run mega agressive wheels with roll/pull/flares/overfender aka widebody/neg camber/ and stretching tires left and right so its not new to me. i personally prefer not to pull my fenders and if i must to make this setup work, then its a no for me.

on an 240sx, we can run 17x9 + 16 with just a semi agressive roll and we will be fine provided the car has coilovers. i didnt know subie's normal offsets are +55!!

Is there a "Ride of the Year" category?! btw, I can't tell...did you completely remove your grill? whatever you did, I keep staring and wondering to myself: "can my outback pull ANY of that off?"

...amazing

Excellent car. I ask what is the color of this?
The disks with the emission of rubber must not be caught on the arch?

twistedautoworks

the color is a one of a kind color that i mixed up. it is primarily gold pearl, black, with a bit of red pearl. and not sure with the translation of what your asking, but no the tires don't rub.

yes the grille is totally gone... i have a custom one i've built, but just haven't gotten it painted yet. I like the grill less look but you can see the bumper clips and so i don't so much like that.. yes your outback can pull much of this same stuff off..

we've been really busy at the shop the past few months so i haven't really had a chance to do any work on the car. i'd like to fix the dent in the trunk and shorten the spoiler by a few inches. oh and try to fit one of the limited sti/forester front lips since mine died.

has been a few months since i was really busy at work. still am pretty busy but pulled my car in to change the oil and decided to fix the dent that the gate to my old shop left in it way back when the car was "just" completed. lame.. but i had to pull the hello kitty band aid off and fix it. i had ordered up a set of jdm lights for the back and went ahead and fabbed in some sheet metal and did some filler work to fit for the differences between the usdm and jdm part. i was also was wanting to reduce the size of the wing, because well... it was ginormous. so i spliced out a few inches and it looks soooo much better and not taller than the roof hah... should be getting the painting done soon and install the jdm center light.. i also drilled out some in it to install 18" led strip and it looks well... awesome since the "legacy" glows... pictures for that once i button up the whole job. next thing will be... oh who knows.. maybe changes the brakes and install an sti engine.. i wish

You should do a DIY thread about this as well. I know someone that wants to do this with his sedan but doesn't know where to start.
