I am going to get a custom intake made when i get my exhaust made. I want to move the air filter to right behind the fog light. I am however worried about it getting wet. any thoughts?

thats called a cai and it will be fine unless you drive into a puddle/lake deeper then your fogs. i no a guy who ran a cai and and drove on logging roads every day and all he did was clean his filter ALOT. but you should be fine

I sucked in a bit of water a few times... it sucks, get a AEM bypass and or some sort of shield for the filter.

Just buy one of those top mount ram air style intakes. It would be good for wetter conditions too as long as you deflect the incoming water.

remember Mattys intake was for MAP subarus not MAF subarus. it ill not work on a 97 without some extra work.

Let us know how it wrks out and put up a DIY with sizing and measurements. I am thinking of building one for my eg33 swap using my square K&N filter and build a box for a wrx hood scoop.

The AEM bypass filter only works to keep you from sucking up damaging amounts of water, amounts that will hydrolock an engine. It won't do anything to avoid sucking up small amounts of water that might mess with the MAF and temporarily throw off its readings.

That being said, I've used CAIs on several cars, never had a problem with any of them. But you do have to be smarter about how and where you drive when you have a CAI on. You need to watch for standing water and mud puddles and avoid them.
