Hey. I bought a B&M short shifter but it doesn't fit like it's supposed to. I have a 96 Legacy L with a 2.2L 5sp manual. The bushings that came with the set work, but the actual shifter doesn't fit in any dimensions.
Is the short shifter made for the 2.0/2.5L trannies and shifter linkages only? Or do I suck?

I think there was a fitiment issue with the 95- to eaarly 97 models. Is it the ball that won't fit in the socket?

Lets put it this way: I was a DSMer (down-syndrome mechanic - DUH) so modifying stuff to work was regular. Now with the ball cut off (for height clearance) and the stock "ball" moved over and repinned on the short shifter, I also had to grind the part where the bolt secures the shifter to the linkage down a 1/4" each side (so the bearing thingies are gones now) and now the shifter linkage looks like it needs to be modified to make it fit. Overall a waste of $300+, but I have no idea where to get a shifter now.
