Update on Last Post!
so i start my car up today... VROOOM... wait? my car doesn't go vroom lol

right away i knew i had an exhaust leak somewhere. :-(

it sounds like one of those crappy fart cans lol it wanna kinda funny driving around all loud and subaru rumbly (not that rumbly :-()

i'm gonna look around for the leak tmw or sat. anyone have any ideas where to start looking?

PS- this week a stock cat back exhaust for a 97 GT was put up for sale in my local subaru club.
- it will be the same as my 99 GT exhaust right?
- how much is it worth? (add says obo)

97 GT will fit a 99 GT. They're both wagons, or both sedans, right? What is his asking amount? These things really don't hold much value since a lot of GT owners go aftermarket.

It doesn't rumble because the stock manifolds are equal length, better for performance, but doesn't have the "subaru rumble."

this just happened to mine i have to go under and check it out today. it really sounds like a lawnmower just BAD and it spits and sputters everytime i shift so either today can be easy or i can be screwed

best way ive found to find exhaust leaks is this;

jack up car, run seafoam treatment, when car dies, plug exhaust loosely with damp rag.

restart car after seafoam treatment with rag in exhaust, crawl under and look for smoke.

you will want to change oil afterwards.

i think i found where the leak is .
its under the heat sheild on the header right next to the head, its not the gasket its on the opposite side (if that makes sense), so i am going to pull my header off and heat shield off and weld where i can see a leak, just as a quick fix till i get my new header.

in low rpms its very pop/rumbly and i've been thinking maybe headers :(

i've been driving it around lots and it sounds awsome

i found out today why it was so loud ... i pulled the heat shield off and foud this

so i pulled off my header and found out this was the problem
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2010/05/DSCF2055-1.jpg
so i welded it together and now it sounds better than normal

im still getting a header as soon as i get paid

so i had to replace the cat-back

i drove it for just under 2 months and boy did it sound bad the last couple days lol

i went somewhere very close to home for the first time, i had met 2 of the sons of the ower of the shop at an Auto-X on seperate occasions and they made me really trust that business. everything went well, I think i got a name drop discount when i told the owner i met his sons

i also used to have a mild thumping when turning and so i got rid of my 2 back tires, 1 had 2 BIG bubbles in the sidewall (drove it since Oct with them  ) now thats completely gone. so if people can't diagnose their car thumping i'd check for those.

now all i need is ana good oil change

i'll take pics of the new muffler, its nothin fancy but the shop put a funny tip on it and it looks not so stock anymore lol
