I have a 99 Legacy 2.2. Recently, it's been running a bit rough when it's cold. It still misses when it's warm but not nearly as bad. The Check Engine light flashed about 6 or so times when it was misfiring. I scanned the ECU for any history codes but there weren't any. I checked the plugs and wires and they seemed fine. I have a cold air intake but it's never been a problem before. The filter is clean, I haven't driven through water. Plenty of spark. I really don't know where to go from here and I'm afraid to drive it if it's something serious. Any ideas?

Make sure you have no vacuum leaks after the MAF. It could be that something is a little loose and lets in unmetered air, but once it warms up and expands, it seals a little better. If you are unable to find a leak, get the intake system smoke tested. It should reveal any leaks fairly quickly.

Well, I'm tired of racking my brain over this. I checked about everything I can imagine. It's going to the shop Monday. I wouldn't rule out some timing trouble though I hope it's not. I'll let you guys know what I find out. Thanks for the help though.

If it was flashing about once per second, that is an indication of a severe misfire.

I got the car back from Subaru today. It turns out it was a bad injector o-ring. I just told them to fix it to finish the diagnostics and make sure that was all it was. I didn't want to have to take the car back and pay another diag. fee. I came out to 130 bucks for everything. I'm happy.
The guy was surprised how the compression tested so well with 181k. on the car. I've never had a car with so few problems.
