I have a 1998 subaru legacy L sedan 2.2 L and recently bought a JDM digital climate control system, i have been researching on my own trying to find out how to swap out the stock (manual) one with the auto climate control but i havent had much luck. The package that i bought had the;
Head Unit
Complete dash Harness ( but its for a Right hand drive car so its not an exact swap, conectors are diff. ect.)
Out Side Air Temp Sensor
Sun load Sensor w/ vent cover
High speed fan relay
Inside air temp sensor with tube
Air Mix Motors with linkage
Blower Motor Resistor

i was wondering if anyone has done this conversion before or if they have any info that could help? Like wiring diagrams or pin layouts for the JDM automatic digital climate control?

i think there's issues with the manual heater manifold control that causes it to be incompatible with US cars

i figured i might have a few problem that ill run into and have to create my own modification, but right now all i really need is a wiring diagram and pin layout of the JDM head unit itself so i can find out what wire should be power, AC ect...any info helps though

as you can see i should have everything i need, all i need to know is a wiring diagram or pinout for the control unit. because i cant just plug and play with the wiring harness supplied, (its for a JDM right hand drive vehicleso the connectors and wires are different)

Doesn't the compressor run at different speeds according to demand?

Finally someone is doing this swap, I've wanted to see this get pulled off. Would it be a big bother for you to document this swap well and do a write up when you finish.

not a problem at all, i already plan on doing a well documented write up and posting it. and ill keep you guys up to date on my progress
so far iv already installed the outside air temp sensor and the in dash sun light sensor, and im just waiting on the wiring diagrams and then ill let you know how the rest goes from there.

i knew they were also standard like that in Canadian cars. However i havent found anyone from Canada or from Australia yet who has a Factory Service Manual. So if anyone knows someone who does have one, or knows where to get one please PM me
its for a 98 Legacy sedan (95-99 years should be the same) I need one for the Automatic digital climate controll

Looking to do the exact same thing! I already have the climate control unit but I don't have the sensors or motors yet. Not sure where I'm going to acquire those, actually. Anyhow, I was super curious as to how this stuff would be wired up as the connectors are WAY different. Thanks for posting the wiring diagram though! That'll help for sure.

Bumping an ancient thread. I occasionally see the automatic climate "head units" on Ebay and they always intrigue me. All the picture links in this thread are dead. Has anyone successfully done the swap in a USDM BD/BG/BK?

This certainly isn't high on my list of things I need to do, I just think it would be cool.

Don't buy this unless you can at least get all the parts for it just like the OP. I bought the headunit not thinking about what else it needed. Luckily only payed $40 with center vent. Check out how the 240 guys do it (google) and it pretty much shows you everything needed to do it on a 240

Yeah, most of the time the ebay listings are just the head unit. Only once or twice (in the years that I've had a "Legacy parts" saved search) have I seen all of the bits and pieces.

So... can you swap your HVAC?? I want to do the same... Here in Chile, we have BG5 Twin Turbo with LHD conversion, with HVAC and TWO functionally Turbos...But only EJ20H version engine... These car is only on one region (a region without custom taxes)... but these local people have many junkyards and the rest of the country can buy engine and car parts..

I'd be interested in any information on where one can acquire the sensors and or the wiring diagrams for this.

if these were indeed available on Canadian cars then there shouldn't be any problems sourcing the sensors new from Subaru here in North America.
