I have sold my legacy, and bought a 2002, wrx, perferct, no scratches, no dings, 1 owner, clean carfax, clean as hell, i love the car, only think doesnt work is the clock that is on the top of the stereo.
The car is stock stock, only thing HKS exhaust, i payed 9k
You can find a sharp 2002 wrx, if you have patience. so dont rush.

NASIOC is not bad in my opinion. The later models in the '03 production year have better brakes and a better transmission.

Um, NO, the 'better transmission' started in 2002 (MINE has the 'better transmission'), and the 'better transmission' has not been changed from the mid production run 2002 until 2009? They still break. But they don't break as easily.

My 2002 has the 2002 style brakes, non-light up keyring, but it has the 'newer' transmission. All they did was make second gear wider, IIRC. The syncros suck, and second, third, fourth, first, and fifth gears can still be stripped off the gearhub if you really want to (most likely, in that order). There's a 2003 WRX transmission at the local dealership on display with no gear teeth on first and reverse gears.

All in all, if you want a 2002, then make sure it has the right transmission code. Otherwise, the brakes don't make any difference. If you really want a good car, get a 2004. That way, it's actually POSSIBLE to get the right brakes for it, since it's nearly impossible to get the right fucking brake pads for the 2002 or 2003 half the time because parts places have their heads up their asses. When I need pads, and I'm at NAPA, I get pads for a 1998 Legacy GT, because I know I'm getting the right pads, and it takes 1/10th the time to actually get them. Otherwise, the idiot asks "early or late? Are you sure? I'm confused, it shows two part numbers, let me ask my manager, I don't want to give you the wrong parts... Hold on... Okay, here you are, the revised parts! Oh, these are the wrong ones? Sorry, I'll get the right ones then."

Right, they changed them midway thru '02, but if you get an 03, you know what you have.

im bouncing back between a 2002 impreza rs and a wrx...i want turbo but i want an rs...nobody around here has a swapped one for sale and finding a wrx engine around is pretty rare too not to mention a garage thatll swap it

just buy your wrx, any year, any car is good if you know how to treat it, and doing the right maintainance, the car is what the owner is... I buy every single part from the subaru dealership, they make me a really good discount, because they know that i buy always there, thats why my car always thanks me, and last long long time.

The 2002 started out with the 1997-1999 Legacy GT brake pads, but changed to a different style.

yeah i found out the hard way that the gt brake pads were bigger than the l...the 14" alloys on my wagon didnt clear my brakes...at all

i really like the rs and would definitely go for a 2004-2005 wrx but since i dont have that kind of cash i guess ill stick with the bugeye

got pics of the wagon to put on craigslist but now my parents insist i spend $300 for inspection, inner and outer tie rods, and an alignment then put my gt in the shop to get worked on like new cv joints, tie rods, tires, alignment, and air conditioner tensioner (since mine broke) so a wrx seems like a huge longshot
