I have been doing some research on HID's and I want to know:

what kit you use?

have you gotten any tickets from them?

Are they annoying to other drivers?

do you have clean cutoff?

Basically if it's too much of a hassel it's not worth getting and I want to be polite to oncoming traffic.

Both of my cars have HIDs from the factory. They also both have headlight levelers so I don't bother oncoming drivers and get flashed by high-beams.

But I doubt that helped you with what you wanted to know...

Well, one of the cars is my US '05 Impreza. Like I said, both cars have stock headlight systems.

I have had OEM retro's in my maxima from 05-07 and my legacy from 07-10 and have never once been pulled over for my lights. i have been flashed maybe 2-3 times for coming up over hills and having people below my cutoffs. I do TONS of night driving also

I have Infinity FX replicas retroed into my JDM housings (done by ^^^)

I've been flashed once because I was cresting a hill and the oncoming car was below the cutoff. I don't have any leveling system (as is legally required for any HID system) but I don't really carry much weight in the back so it isn't really necessary. The cutoff is at least as good as the OE FX projectors, with a little more color than the OE projectors. Light output is awesome, very wide, and the bixenons made the high beams almost like daylight.

Prior to that, I had HIDs in the factory JDM halogen projectors. Light output was OK, cutoff was blurry but functional, some glare above the cutoff but not that horrible. Got flashed a couple times in the short time I had them in.

Prior to that, I had a plug and play kit in my Mazdaspeed3's halogen projectors. Result was about the same as the JDM Legacy projectors, with a little bit more focused cutoff. Never got flashed.

Prior to that, I had a plug and play HIDs in my Hella ECE-compliant H4 conversion lenses in my old Probe GT. The cutoff was actually suprisingly good for a reflector lens, glare was very minimal, and light output was fantastic for what they were.

All the plug and play kits were DDM kits, all 4500k 35w kits.

Yeah I am going to get him to do a full FX retro when I get the cash. I have decided on those. I hear 4.5k is the best bulbs anyways so I should be good.

I had a 6000k KLight kit in my 2.5RS with halogen reflectors. The light scatter was horrendous. Kept those in for a year and then took them out. Now I have a 6000k DDM kit in my JDM projector Legacy lights and I love them however the cutoff is a bit fuzzy, but not horrible.

I have 4300k in my Gen3 OBK. I have been flashed a few times but i think people just need something to whinge about.
Still trying to get the focusing right though.

Rule of thumb: NEVER put an HID kit into halogen reflector headlights. Projectors are usually a better candidate for installing an HID kit, simply because the light won't go all over the place, but you'll never get the pretty cutoff of a real HID projector.

Thanks, yeah my plan is to do it to the JDMs if I decide I want to after using them as stock for a while.

Projectors are just generally better for HIDs anyway because even OE reflector HIDs (like 04-05 STis, for example) aren't that great because they can't spread out the light output out far enough. So you get a patch of light right in front of you but not much out to the sides compared to quality projectors.

I got mine from a seller on ebay who also allow local pickup.
They have a home office in sydney and the postage they offered outweighed travel costs so i went for a drive.

Cost me AU$90 for 4300k HID converstion kit - with the new, smaller ballasts; which i attached to the base of the light assembly, JDM stylez yo

EDIT: This is the store i used. However, they only ship to Australia.
