Going to a dragstrip tonight

No offense, but why are you taking the car to a dragstrip? It is just going to make you want to mod or swap after you see the numbers. :twisted: I say you do the quarter in 18-19 seconds. Good luck!

Well its just a fun thing to do ya know? like to see all the other cars. Its like a deal tonight where you pay ten dollars and you can race your car against anybody. Theres a few crazy fast cars there but usually its nothing too nuts. So its just good fun! I raced in my parents honda element there a while ago. Beat a volvo!

If you want to bring it to a dragstrip go for it. You don't need a fast car to have fun. I've always had slow cars and seem to have fun in one way or another. Take the stuff out, it wont be dramatic, but why not?

Spare tire, yes, that's easy. Back seats seems like too much work to me - you can take all sorts of other things out too, where do you stop :lol:

Drag racing is all right - there is SOME skill involved in the launch, might as well practice on a slow car so you can just blame the car :lol:

18-19? it'll do better than than that, my v6 grand am was running mid 15s stock and the legacys are faster than that was

You can have fun at a drag strip with a slow car. As long as you don't go into it all serious and think you're going to run a 14.

Your Legacy L is not going to beat your V6 Grand Am. Even if your Grand Am was a 3.1 it still has a good 20hp and 40ft-lbs torque on your Legacy.

Realistically, a stock Legacy L will probably run in the 17s, maybe high 16s with a 5MT, and well into the 18s with a 4EAT.

Drag racing can be fun regardless of what you are driving. I think I actually had more fun drag racing my Legacy than my Mazdaspeed3 because the Legacy has traction, the MS3 would burn out all through 1st and 2nd gear and into 3rd, even with an easy launch. Just set yourself a realistic goal and spend the evening changing your technique to see what works and what doesn't. Either that or try to be as consistant as possible, because that is really where the skill comes into play. Just don't abuse the car, because you still need to drive it home :) And it is really, really easy to abuse an AWD car.

That car will not make it faster than 17 seconds. Its still fun to run 'em though. Don't bother with the seats, spare tire sure. You must remove 100 lbs to make a .1 second difference.

I ran my 2000 Legacy one night at an open strip, 17.890 was the fastest I could get her to go... but it was fun! (I think I even got smoked by a Dodge Ram 3500 with the Cummins diesel and dualies)

Fastest I've gotten out of my car so far is 15.924 @ 86mph. But I've only had it to the track once, and that will probably be the last time until after the swap because my clutch did not like it at all.
