Another 5MT Bushings/Slopppy Shift Question

Alright, just bought a '00 LGT LMTD......lovin' it. After reading up about all the great info on fixin' sloppy shifting I went to the Kartboy site to order some. I was hoping to replace all the bushings in the various diagrams that have been posted. What all do i need. They have the 5-speed bushing combo for $65. Which bushings will this replace, I'm only seeing 2 and that bracket with bolts. Thanks for the help!

The items in Blue are kartboy replacements.

Theres not much more you can replace when it comes to the shifter bushing.

Hey Chuck, from one of the threads you posted that both front and rear stay bushings need to be replaced, correct? According to that step by step with the exploded views, the rear stay bushing is under the cup that the shifter ball fits in, is that right. If so the Kartboy kit does not include this, but just the front stay bushing....IDK...anyway the kit should be arriving sometime next week, I'll let ya know when i get it installed. Also what are peoples thoughts on why this sloppy shift problem is so common with Subaru's.... just normal wear and tear or maybe hard driving? Curious.....

Yes it sits just under and behhind the cup for the shifter bal.

The Kartboy bolts for the rear-bushing are much better then the ones that come with B&M's since there hex and not torx.

To answer your question about sloppy shifters with subaru's. Its simple you own a car from the 90's with organic rubber bushings. They dry out/crack/disintegrate and loss there stiffness. Going with an aftermarket bushing usually means you going with hardened rubber or some sort of POLY****** material.. They do not breakdown from UV damage or normal atmosphere age-ing.

Even though that link is for Impreza's, it does say that the rear stay bushing that's 35.00 will fit all Subaru 5-speed or 6-speed transmissions.....I should trust that right? Just a little piece of mind before i buy it for my 2000 Legacy GT..................

Hey Chuck,
Finally gettin some time to put my bushings on this Thursday....couple more questions....My bushing kit has 2 bushings and the Rubber Cushion. From the picture in the DIY, is the Rubber Cushion the rear bushing?? (the pic that says "OLD REAR BUSHING"...isn't that a pic of the old cushion??)
If not, should I have 2 bushing for the front and 2 for the rear plus the rubber cushion? Also, since I'm not putting in a new shifter what rings/clips/gaskets should i plan on replacing and where might I find them? Thanks!

1) The rubber cushion is the rear bushings.
2) You need 2x circle bushings that go side-by-side for the front. 1x rear bushings that have two bolt holes.
3) You don't need to replace the ring clip since you have one on your current setup. But if you need one ask the Dealership for this item. Although you can find this clip at any automotive store they will be in variouse shapes and sizes.

Install complete!!! Man I could not get the bolts on the front of the exhaust loose. Tried pretty much everything, impact, cheater bars impact. Twisted an extension in half trying to get them off. Finally did and then the job was a breeze. Shifter not as sloppy in gear and has way better right left spring in neutral. Thanks for the help!

Has anyone replaced the other bushings aside from what Kartboy offers? Like #5 and #13 in the pic? If so, part numbers?

#5 will get worn and do need replaced. #13 is hard poly and needs to be greased.

OK cool, you know the part number? I know that most short shifters replace the #5 bushing on the shifter with a bearing, but the one at the trans still needs replaced. Plus I'm trying to avoid getting an STS because I don't really want shorter throws, I just want a firmer shifter.

Alright, I looked on Legacy Central, and found a bunch of cool stuff, but no part numbers for the shift bushings. So, I got the Subaru FAST program working and looked them up. Here are all the available bushings. See the diagram above to identify which is which...

5 FRONT - BUSHING-STAY COMPLETE LEVER, REAR - 35035KA030
5 REAR - BUSHING - 35035AC000
13 - BUSHING-STAY COMPLETE LEVER - 35035AC030
12 - CUSHION RUBBER-GEAR SHIFT - 35036AA010

The front rubber bushing (20) is not available from Subaru (or at least my version of FAST couldn't find a part number), but Kartboy sells polyurethane replacements for 12 and 20

Maybe this is a stupid question.. how do parts 5, 6 and 14 all fit together?

I have a huge amount of slop in the linkage part of part #14, but the bolt I think it sloppy isnt on this picture!
