So had a offer for a Trade on a 02 wrx with 101k on it. The engine was replaced about 30k miles ago due to it being wrecked hence the rebuilt title... Body is good condition. Interior could use some new seats since they are stockers. Pretty stock besides blow off valve, exhaust, turbo timer, and gauge pod. Clutch i guess was replaced about 8months ago. 3 or 4 guys have said the car is legit, clean and good person to buy from. Whats you guys take on this trade with my 01 Legacy clean title and 145k?

it has a salvage title? depending who did the work to fix it, I'd probably still trade for it.

I wouldn't. The Legacy is a much nicer car and it won't eat as much of your money as the Imp. If you're concerned with speed, you can always make the Legacy faster. It's difficult to make the Imp nicer.

That's just my experience with my GD and BE (the two cars you're debating).

Yeah its that one for trade on nasioc... He said he is interested and wants to meet up like Tuesday. Just really not sure if i should or am wasting my time. I never owned a Bugeye version so i cant say i know a whole lot on them.

I know, that is what am really concerned on is what exactly you said! Not really wanting it for Speed. I know mine is pretty nice with alot of work already done to mine with a huge list of new parts just not sure...

Well, if you're even a little unsure now, then don't do it. Unsure turns to regret later. Enjoy your car now and you can get a WRX later when you feel better about it.

Are you putting any cash down or is it a straight trade? Obviously the WRX is going to be faster and will have more performance potential. Theres a few mods that you listed that are worrysome to me, like the BOV and turbo timer, which are unneccesary mods for a Subaru and are the usual "ricer mods." Salvage isn't so bad, as long as the work is legitimate. And a fresh motor is def a BIG bonus.

Local dealership had a 2002 WRX Wagon with 50k miles on it.

They wanted $16,500 for it... They're complete idiots. Retards to the max.

I don't regret going from my LGT to the WRX. The turbo, suspension, and wagonness are all I needed. It's moddable, and still will pass emissions. The Legacy GT... It would require so much time and effort to get it to pass emissions, I gave up on that car.

Making a Legacy faster is part of the story. My WRX easily would outhandle the LGT it replaced, stock suspension for stock suspension. I do on road and offroad driving, so slamming it isn't an option.

And salvage title? I'd say no. No resale value, and it may have hidden problems. Too much shady shit out there.

the only thing that seems iffy to me is that he had the body work done after a wreck, replacement motor with unknown amount of miles, newer clutch, but wants to trade for a car with twice as many miles. hmm.
If you do consider meeting the guy, I would request some serious paper work. as for the 3 or 4 people saying "it's legit" thats just hear say.
good luck and let us know what you decide.

He wants to trade because nobody in their right mine would buy the car for what it's worth if it weren't salvaged. Maybe your car isn't or will be faster than his. But yours is in better condition and resale is better. Plus insurance will increase with the wrx. No offense to wrx owners but its kind of a teenagers car. I see them in HS parking lots all around here. Just because that car has a turbo it doesn't make it equal or better than your car. I'd walk away from it.... unlesss you bought it for a 2nd car to toy with.

I don't think it's a waste of your time, but I actually like the WRX and would enjoy tinkering with it - brings back lots of good memories.

Wrecked and rebuilt.. like how badly wrecked? Is it really a salvage title? Most states consider a car totaled if repair costs exceed 70 percent of the retail value of the car. I said most states.. don't know which ones but I just read that most states.

So what.. the retail for a 02 WRX with 101K miles is and I'm guessing 6500. So the car sustained 4500 dollars in damages in one single accident.
Besides the new engine and clutch which got put in after the insurance buy back (I guess) you really won't know just how bad that car was mangled.

There are other factors for a car to be considered to be salvaged but saying that is was in wreck pretty much narrows it down.

I'd be worried.
On the outset, you're getting a slightly newer car that's faster and has a fresher engine but you don't know the history of that car other than it got royally fucked up at some point.
You lose your car that you completely know everything about.

^ right, a car is only worthwhile after youve been thru it bow to stern....so to speak..

i wouldnt do it, cause hes getting rid of it for a reason, and your legacy is more origional, if you get it youl havt to start wearing a backwards visor and sayin "yo dawg"...at least thats the demographic around here.

Imprezas are horrible on insurance, my brothers 07 Impreza 2.5i with a 5mt he has a clean driving record and good credit and is 23 is paying about $200 a month for full coverage with a $2k deductible, and it is insured in Seattle (Tukwilla to be exact, with a certain online insurance company.)
if the motor was replaced after it had been wrecked, it would have had to have been pretty messed up, then we are talking air bag deployment, and most likely frame damage, i would not go for it. if you get in an accident with that wrx, if it did have frame damage, would not hold up as well if the car had not been wrecked.
you can get a car with a salvage title easy enough but do take it to a body shop (reputable) to have them look over the car with a fine tooth comb, it would really be worth it.

Yeah what he said about seeing if you can get it inspected. not sure if the owner would alow you to have it checked out but i waould take it to a body shop and have them look over it.
When i worked at a bodys shop we had all the spec mesurements and had these tools to verify all the mesure ments when we had to do frame pulls to get everthing in spec dimensions.
Personally i like your car way to much matty to even think about a trade. but i would think about getting a used WRX to work on as a second project car.
(my problem is even though i have a sweet wagon i want to build up and mod, the wife keeps thowing out that its her car too. and the family daily driver. so i debate just mod slow and let her get used to it. or buy her a distraction car) might cost more lol trying to distract her away from the subie she loves that car. but she has hinted at letting me get a project car of my own used.

Probably a front end accident shoved the front end into the cam gears, and broke them off...that means engine replacement.

Salvage cars are really hit or miss because it is really difficult to determine if the car was repaired correctly or not. Inspecting the car after the fact without seeing everything that was damaged prior is difficult, and that is assuming that they found all the damage to begin with.

Personally, I have 2 rules for buying cars... 1) Not modified, 2) Not salvaged. Reason being that its really difficult to know if the work was done right or not.

Wait, what? You consider a turbo timer to be worrisome? As far as I'm concerned, they're standard equipment on any car with a turbo, unless you like hanging around in it for a minute and then turning the car off, no matter that it's claimed it's not neccessary anymore, better to be safe than sorry I reckon.

Blow off valves are also pretty standard, really, in fact, I'm considering getting both that and a big bore exhaust for my BH5 when I have a chunk of change to spare.

Having got that rant off my chest, I'd still say to be careful with that particular WRX. If you're really keen to swap it for your Leggy, be sure to get it inspected from top to bottom by someone who's qualified in that department.

Hmm. I'm guessing you mean aftermarket. Personally, I don't like running rich. I'd rather have power than noise. The only reason my Impreza has an aftermarket BOV is I run pretty high boost on a fully tweaked out engine. The factory BOV just doesn't do the job anymore. For the average person, the factory BOV is sufficient.
To me, a person who has a BOV as his first (or early) modification says they aren't entirely sure what they do.

By the way, Matty already got the WRX.

considering how hard he tried to make his BE look like an imprezza, I wasn't surprised.

I wanted the sound without compromising performance on my WRX. I also needed to replace the turbo inlet, since mine came with that nice "Tear Option", and was leaking. The new inlet was forcing the airbox against the fender well so hard, it was a massive pain to change the air filter, so I stepped up to a short ram intake, as well as doing a self tune.

My car now sounds like it has a BOV, but it has the stock BPV, which still is hooked up properly, and I've properly rescaled the MAF for the short ram intake. All I have to do now is figure out how to make a water guard for my filter (or just get a hydro sock), because there's a water drain right over the filter. When it rains, the water from the gap between the hood scoop and hood runs down the hood supports, and drains right onto my air filter, which in turn makes the MAF sensor not so happy. Joy.

:smt018 First off you should read some posts and not just pictures... I didnt try to make it look like a imprezza, i made it look Different then every other Legacy on the streets! Your bashing every LGT guy on here saying if you put a larger spoiler, rota wheels, and a Hood with a scoop if its custom or JDM on your car, then your wanting to be a Imprezza. :smt017 Ohhh and i Own a 07wrx and now the 02 is my new toy. :smt023
