I just got back from having purchased a 2000 Legacy GT in Louisville, KY. I'm live in White House, TN (about 20 miles north of Nashville) and come from the world of European cars. I've been an exclusive fan of Swedish cars (Volvo/Saab) for the past 7 years or so. I'm a huge turbo guy, but I intentionally bought an N/A car this time so I would just leave it alone. See, I have this really bad habit of getting a turbo car and then turning up the boost within about 5 minutes of buying it... Yeah.

I'll be a little long-winded in this post because I think the story of how I decided to become a Subaru owner is pretty cool. I've been a fan of Rally for a long time, and decided if I wasn't going to drive/co-drive, I'd volunteer at a Rally. My first Rally experience was last weekend at the Rally Tennessee in Linden/Lobelville, TN, and it was a great Friday, followed by a horrible Saturday morning, completed with a great Saturday afternoon/evening. My old car was a 1988 Saab 900 SPG (Turbo). I was driving all over the place Friday taping off stages, reminding the locals of the road closures on Sunday morning, etc. Well, it overheated due to a cooling fan relay that died. The next morning a series of squeaks and squeals turned into bangs and clanks as I was headed to my first stage, and then it turned into a pop and a grunt. The engine had seized. On my way to my first stage.

So, being at a rally, I was surrounded by Subarus. I have always loved the sound of a boxer engine and I realized that I really wanted to try a Japanese car again. I've previously owned Hondas, please forgive me, but have never tried the brand of the stars. So, I started searching and realized that an older Legacy GT would be just the ticket.

So, I'm the 3rd owner of this Gold GT that started in Oregon and then travelled to Georgia to now find it's way to Tennessee. I have a few modifications planned, but trying to learn about the car first. It already has a Magnaflow Cat-back on it, and what appears to be an underdrive pulley. Glad to be here, hope to learn a lot.

I love the Swedish cars too. Congrats on the Legacy, and welcome!

Welcome to SLi, stay away from the under drive pulley. Shoot me a pm and I can give you a few prices on lighten pulleys.

Thanks!

Reason, I'm not sure that it has an underdrive pulley, but I'm not sure whether the stock harmonic balancer is typically what appears to be anodized aluminum. I would assume that the stock piece is cast iron/steel, but I don't know personally.

I've used a UDP on a previous car (Neon) with success, but it was an Unorthodox piece which were the best available for the Neons. I know that cheaper pulleys tended to cause serious issues.

Thanks for the heads up!

Yea not many, if any use underdrive pulleys in the subaru community. Your car doesnt have a harmonic balancer. And as for the pulley it's an easy swap, you dont a puller and whatever else you need. It's very straight forward.
