my wagon is leaking oil from the front main seal and i got one to replace it but havent gotten around to it yet
yesturday my dad came up to me and said that he was talking to the one mechanic he knows and the mechanic said not to replace the seal because it will end up leaking more because that's how subarus are
is that true or is he on crack?

On crack. I've replaced them on a few cars, and never had a leak again. As long as you do it right your fine.

he is most definitely hitting the pipe about the "subarus do that" bit,
but what hes saying isnt totally wrong, sometimes, especially on high mileage motors multiple seals will fail and the WORSE of the two will do the most leaking... then when replaced oil pressure rises and the other makes itself known.
i have seen this on dodge/chrysler more than anyone. but it is true of any motor to a point.
do all your front seals while someone is in there.
and all the other goodies.
EDIT: yeah, what he^ said.
