Any luck with running nitrous?

Has anyone had the chance to experiment with running a 50 shot or smaller of nitrous on an N/A motor? I was tinkering with the idea, but wanted to see what everyone else had to say first.

NOS is for 16 year old Honda owners... :lol:

Sorry for the out burst. I would stay away from it, leads to nothing but problems down the road. Puts a lot of stress on stock internals. I would not recomend it what-so-ever. I would not even mess with a 50 shot, which is quite small considering what I have seen some people run.

There are other mods that can be done, maybe not as easily, nor for the same money. But will yield about the same results, and not grenade your engine in the long run. Just stick to pure NA power if that's the route you wish to take.

Ive read a few thread on NASIOC about doing this. Seems like an interesting idea to give your car an extra kick.

Kevin Thomas on Nasioc had a 50 shot on his Outback sport...he also had a turbo kit and ran 13s in the 1/4 mile.

My best friend ran a 75 wet shot on his nearly stock (intake & header) Honda Civic 1.6 VTEC motor & had great results. He only used it at the track & used an AutoMeter A/F gauge to monitor if he was going lean while running. He did bump up the fuel pressure & added an aftermarket fuel pump to compensate.
The numbers he came out with on the track & at the dyno were pretty good for the $300 he spent on the Zex nitrous kit. Kids who were doing motor swaps & turbo upgrades weren't beating him at the track, but only staying fairly even with him.

Like I said, I'm only toying with the idea. I wanted to do it to my Focus ZX3 when I had it, but it was a returnless fuel line set up. So you could only go with the dry set up, which I didn't really like because you could easily go lean that way.

Perrin fuel rails & injectors + walbro fuel pump + NOS kit = what you should get, should you N2O your vehicle.

However, i don't reccomend it.

One of my friends builds cars up and sells them. He puts nitrous on them and most of his cars he owns. I known him for 7 years now and he's never had a problem. I also toyed with the idea of a 50 shot of juice. At this point of my "build" It's not in sight. Maybe after the suspension is complete.

I will say this though, "to each his own" maybe. I read an article in Subie sport that the Subaru community is arrogant, which I agree with. Because some kid that drives a Honda has something on his car is rice? Or just not right with Subaru's. I met kids that know more about cars than most of us.

I don't see anything wrong with NOS as long as its hooked up properly and used the right way. I asked questions about certain things. I've heard I know this guy that told me his friends cousin used "this" and blew up his motor or whatever. I say about 99% of the time it's BS. Unless I hear it first hand I'm trying it out.

Jason, my opinion on this subject would be to find out more about it and go for it.

However, if you run it too often itll toast your motor, even if you don't run lean. I have never seen it run on a subaru though. As mark said: you would need some kind of air/fuel management at least, as well as upgraded fuel delivery (injectors and pump)(fuel rails would be nice too, to make sure you don't lean out #3). All that trouble and worry for the shot you would run? I would spend my money elsewhere.

Nitrous is not rice. Unless you make it rice with your attitude.

BTW, a couple weeks ago one of ECB's SRT-4s that runs a 150 wet shot had a nitrous flareup and BLEW THE TURBINE OUT OF HIS TURBO. Right out of the middle. The turbo is empty inside lol. He also has a fist sized hole in his intercooler.

A few of my NZ colleagues have run N20 on their cars - but they tend to go for turbo charger upgrades over nitrous because it's less work and it's easier to manage.

I did hang out with a girl who drove a 3.0 NA Supra who had a direct port 150hp system installed - it was very quick. She decided after having it a year (and spanking a number of young boys) that turbocharging was her new love.
