Well at 90500 I lost a head gasket. I am going to order a new set; does anybody have any recommendations on brand? Right before this happened I ordered a new oil pan and gasket because mine has a pretty serious dent in it from the previous owner so that is going on as well. Once I pull the motor I think I am just going to go ahead and replace my timing belt and water pump for good measure. I also have an oil leak which has swollen my lower rad hose so I was going to figure the leak out and get some silicone hoses. I think I can use impreza hoses? any advice or recommendations is greatly appreciated thanks guys.

if its leaking oil its probobly the crank or cam seals i would replace all of them, and valve cover gasket, and if you want to aint anythging under the hood like the intake manifold or valve covers now would be a good time, i think thats pretty much all i repaced water pump and belt, tensioner, seals and valve cover gaskets, i reused the intake manifold gasket

A. I use only oem, from subaru, but thats just me.
B. oil pan doesn't use a gasket, it's sealer.
C. maybe a 2.5 impreza hoses will work.

extra credit recommendations: replace all the main belt bearing also!

Subaru (and most Japanese) oil pans don't use a gasket, they use sealant.

I'd recommend OE or Felpro gaskets. Cometic ones are good too.

This Honda civic pulls up next to me yesterday. I was in the middle of a phone call (hands free so how can you tell :grin: ) when the driver seems to be trying to get my attention.

Zeus tells me his legacy is kaput and was wondering if I was on SLI. Heh, hope you get your car back together. My head gaskets went at about 80k. 20k later I put in a STI engine.

Bite the bullet and just swap now I say. :smile:

hey guys! Kens ride is sick btw! i already have all the parts they have been sitting in the back seat since about 2 weeks after it blew. We just swapped an LS1 into my brothers FC rx-7, so i finally have the shop open to fix the leggy. I was going to just wait until i got my tax return and do the STI swap but my GF's lexus is needing to be replaced and that has priority since she hauls the baby around most of the time. I think maybe 2012 the leg will get the swap.

So did you end up just getting the whole engine reseal kit, or just buying the head gaskets? I think the whole engine reseal kit is only like $250ish from online.. so its always a good idea when pulling apart the engine.

I used to have a FD, still longing to buy another one.

What kind of Lexus? Wife's IS300 just got some new stainless brakelines and slotted rotors. Still tempted to do a turbo install. We have kids in private school though, so limited funs on toy expenditures.

Looks like we have a somewhat similar history in car ownership. Was that your Honda? I previously had a 2000 Civic SI too. :grin:

My first car was an 88 rx-7 gtu (stolen and stripped) then my honda came and it was basically set up for the track i was literally weeks away from ordering my k20 when it was stolen and stripped as well. Now it's just my puddle jumper. She has an rx300 its not bad it just has a lot of miles and we want to get something bigger since we plan on expanding our family, so my funds are limited as well.

BOOM! The legacy is back on the road and just in time, we got a few snowflakes today and we are supposed to get snow saturday!

ya it has been 5 for me i think. I wasn't really feeling the pressure to start the project until last week when it started to get cold and there was talk of snow. So i started it a couple weekends ago and finished it up last weekend.
