i'm curious to see if anybody is running whiteline flat outs on their legacy? i've seen pics of a few leg's lowered on the whiteline controls but i was curious to see how much lower the flatouts sit.

The flatouts I've seen applied to BD series sedans in NZ where the roads are decent - very few potholes.

They are seriously dropped, and really are only street and highway cruisers. None of those cars could take a turn of any real competitive nature.

I emailed Whiteline a couple of years back and they themselves do not recommend using the springs if you plan to autox, or attempt to take corners aggressively. They told me that the flatouts are their biggest compromise to keep the "all show" consumers happy.

If you want to go that low and maintain control - get some coilovers.

thanks for the info... coilovers are a bit out of my price range though (at least for my winter car)

i'm hoping with a different set of wheels, some stiffer struts, and maybe a set of sway bars, i'll be happy with the springs that are on the car (it rubs currently)

I'd match the springs and struts if I were you...

Find out what springs are on the car - and perhaps what the spring rates are.

the struts on his car now are stock and the springs are progessive drop springs made for an impreza

Most springs are progressive drop - they drop, progressively.

What's the brand?

progress springs, stock struts (progress being the brand) 8)

Given that the car is gonna be a daily driver/hauler - I'd get legacy specific springs - especially because it's a wagon, it carries a gross weight higher than a regular sedan, and if/when it gets loaded up, the Impreza springs will not be able to cope.

It's also likely that the Impreza springs will result in the stock struts being compressed nearly all the time, which will drastically shorten their life.

that's kinda what i was thinking...

i'm considering whiteline controls as i understand that whiteline has a bg/bk specific spring. i do want to upgrade the struts too... probably to gr2's

That'll be a good combo.

I like the Whiteline stuff too - they appear to have a stiffer spring rate than the Eibach stuff - and frankly I like them because they're a southern hemisphere company

Feel like rebuilding some Bilsteins w/ Tanabe springs?

sorry for the ignorance, but how do you rebuild a blown strut?

if i didn't have to pay $100 to get them and then god-knows how much more to rebuild them, i'd go for it.

i think i'd rather just go whiteline/gr2... that way everything is new and i know what i'm getting myself into. i figure i should be able to sell the progress springs and maybe recoup some of the money spent on the suspension.

i saw an outback at the junkyard when i went on tuesday which got me thinking i could pick up the strut/spring combo off that for winter

Some company's sell strut inserts, less than the whole assembly itself.

yeah, pick up the full suspension if you can, and have it ready to swap for winter, that would be awesome :)
