how do you feel about macco

my car is all primer and i have a small dent that i need knocked out, but ive been going back and forth on whether i should use macco or someone else. macco said they would get the dent out and paint the door jams and the rest of the body but thats it and they wont give me a waranty on it since i primered it myslef. one of my friends had his truck painted there and they did a really crappy job on it like getting clear coat on the door panels or leaving tap marks around his door handles and suff

so should i use them or pay more to go somewhere else

My friend in high school had them paint his car and it turned out pretty nice. BUT him and his dad spent countless hours doing all of the prep work and taping then trailered it there and just had them Paint it. Nothing more. I dont know about having them do everything i have heard some not so good stories.

someone else. maaco is overpriced and their paint is not much better than subaru's oem stuff

Save the BS for something else. Save a few more dollars for a paint job from a quality shop.

PS, no body shop will warranty the paint job since you did the prep yourself. It's the most important step.

i had to take my truck back 6 times to have them fix stuff and clean paint out of the interior and they painted over the factory decals. save up and take it somewhere else

Spend 150 on a cheap sprayer, paint and training for a monkey and you can do better... If you get my drift...

The shop I worked at just had a little service truck painted basic white by Maaco...they did a horrible job, tons of overspray, painted over the weather stripping on several spots, didn't paint the door jams, around the hood or the bed. Lots of painted over dust, marks in the paint, even some paint sags. And it wasn't even their cheapest version.

1) Macco is a franchise.
2) What this means is that all Macco's use the same paint.
3) They mix their own paint in-house and are supplied by which ever manufacture can produce the cheapest paint.
3a) Mixing your own paint in-house is cost effective compared to pre-mixed paints that must be pre-ordered at a higher cost.
4) Most Macco's have a typical state-of-mind. If your paying as little as possible then the work will be as little as possible. This includes:
4a) No cover tire cover / improperly installed. Can you say overspray on your wheels?
4b) No tail pipe cover / improperly installed . Can you say over spray on your COBB axle back :-(
4c) Improper tape job. Moldings covered in over spray and this is not easy to remove.
4d) Over spray on glass and other areas
4e) Improper flex-agent mixtures. Bumpers crack within a few weeks.
5) Poor color match and blend.
6) Heavy cheap clear coats.
7) When painting a car a different color then the factory color the painters tend to miss things like:
7a) Lower rad support/tire wells/tow hooks / rear undercarriage.

You got to pay to play. There are reasons why people choose Maaco compared to smaller body shops. Cheap is not always better.

I am not saying this is going to happen. I am just saying from "personal" experience this "can" happen.

I had Maaco paint a brand new OEM hood that I bought from the dealership. Told me they'd do their highest quality paint job. Came back with runs in the clearcoat, and it started peeling after 1 year. Not even close to an OEM paint job - I would only use Maaco if you simply don't care about the paint job...
