What should I check?
i did check the fuse. I dont know yet if it threw me a CEL because I already have a p0400 and a p0420.
All pads and rotors have under 5k on them.

Doesnt come on as I am backing up and hitting my brakes, comes on as soon as i move forward.
I have been having this wierd sound that sounds like a creak from an old house door for a few weeks now. I think it is my steering link or strut. I only hear it when i start to accelerate or slow down (all under 20mph). If I start in 2nd, I dont hear it as much.

UPDATE: just took it for a small spin. ABS light isnt coming on now but my ABS is kicking in everytime I hit the brakes.

ABS will not throw a check engine light. There is a thread somewhere that explains how to pull ABS codes.

There are two main items that you have to be concerned about with abs.
1) The pump
2) The sensors.

The sensors work on a very simple level. Its a magnet that detects the wheel spinning. There are two wires that attach the sensor. + / - . Depending on the model of ABS sometimes the + is shielded. Some times not.

If your throwing the code going forward its most likely one of your abs sensors. I had the same issue sort of. I put a 97' abs sensor in a 96 harness and "made" it fit. No ABS light until i rolled forward. Going backwards was never the problem. Fix was replace a proper year abs sensor.

I cant help you when it comes to diagnosing which one failed but I am pretty sure its your ABS sensor failing.

Time it takes to replace the sensor as long as you are not battling rust. 15-20 mins.
