06 Outback bog when accel. from idle.

hey guys and gals, and..whomever doesnt fit in those catagories...

just got a call from my father who owns an 06 outback.

he says all the sudden(didnt do it before) when he accelerates from a stop(WOT, or damn close im sure) the car will bog/choke for about a second or two, then catches up with itself and goes fine...

if he accels from 10MPH or more, it doesnt bog...

ive heard of this issue on the older 'rus, and there has been much debate on the cause of that.

but ive never heard of it on the newer MAP based cars. maybe i just havent been paying attention to the newer ones.

havent had a chance to go look at it yet, thoughts/idears?

Automatic transmission? I'd check the condition of the transmission fluid too.

I would also check the condition of the plugs & wires.

sorry. yes its an AT w/ just about 30k on it.

spoke to him this morning, and as quick as it came, it left....

ive been ragging on him to get a trans flush, or let me get a trans flush....

but if the trans shits out, guess who gets paid to replace it = )

not sure how the trans would cause the motor hesitation tho...explain?

mine did the same thing and it turned out to be the knock sensor, took forever for the CEL to come on...this was also in a 97

Trans wouldn't necessarily cause the engine itself to hesitate, but if the torque convertor were slow to spin up to its stall speed or if it weren't as tight as it is should be, it could create the sensation of a hesitation. Isolating drivability problems like that down to the engine or trans can sometimes be a bit difficult.
