Hello! I am relatively new to Subarus and the forum, so I hope to learn a few things from everone here to prevent future problems and help others :)
I have had a few problems with my Legacy and I was wondering if anyone on the forum has had this similar problem. I have a 2.2L, 5speed, Legacy sedan that has been acting up. When I hit a few bumps in the road, the ABS light on the dash lights up then goes off.
Situation 1: Last week I was driving to school and hit a bump, the ABS light came on, the car started jerking violently, the check engine light started to flash, and then the car completely shut down.
On the side of the road, I turned the key but no lights, beeps, or anything. Disconected the battery and held the brake down to reset the computer. Hooked the battery back up and turned the key. It beeped but didn't turn over. I thought I fried the ECU, I just happened to have a spare in the trunk so I switched that out. It beeped, but no crank. I was getting frustrated and then thought to disconnect the ABS. Unplugged it, turned key, the car started right up.
Situation 2: This worked for a few days. However, this time was a cold start in my driveway. I got in the car, turned the key, the electric system shut down. no beeps, lights, anything. I hooked up the ABS unit and it popped right over.
Situation 3: This got me about 9 miles then situation #1 happened again. Flashing CEL, car shut down, unplugged ABS, went on my way.
Situation 4: The car sat for an hour and 1/2, then the same thing in #2 happened during start up. This time I kept the ABS unplugged, took out the 5 prong black fuse box, turned key, and drove off. I haven't had a problem since.
Situation 1 happened on Thursday June 24th.
Situation 2, 3, and 4 happened all in the same day; Saturday June 26th.
I wasn't sure if this would fit the category I posted it in. I was thinking it was a wheel sensor going bad at first but now I'm thinking its the whole ABS unit. Has anyone had a problem like this and can help me out? thank you!
