A damn jacked up cowboy truck attempted to eat the front of my '98 Subaru Legacy. He of course left my bumper untouched, but grill, radiator, lights, and framework were pushed back. The force stopped before hurting the engine/timing belts and pulleys. Pretty much everything is replaceable, except I see a road block in trying to fix/replace the metal frame work around the radiator. I have removed everything that I can; however, I don't know where to begin on the framing. What should I do? (I am attempting to fix everything myself... if that is possible!?)

At the junk yard
1) Pick up a set of spot weld drill bits

1) Go to your local junk yard and bring a drill with the spot weld drill bits, hammer, chissel, anything flat that you can bang on
2) Unbolt then drill out the entire upper/lower rad support from a legacy within your generation.

At home
1) Remove everything from the front end of you car.
1a) head lights / bumpers/ grilles / radiator / condensor / overflow tank / etc..
2) With your spot weld drill bits remove your old rad support assembly.
3) You have two choices now.
3a) BOLT the junk yard rad support back together
3b) WELD the junk yard rad support back together

The proper way would be to weld but if you don't have access you can get away with just bolts.

It's possible, mine is a little out of whack from the previous owner getting into a bender. If you dont fell confident in fixing it have a body shop do it.

Thank you. I am a total novice at this and need some detailed explanations. So when i am taking off the "real" metal bumper, how far back do I need to take out bolts on the shaft before it slides out? Is it just up to the canister? Are there any other problems that I should anticipate having?

The real metal bumper is called a "Re-Bar" you can unbolt the 4 main bolts in the frame rail to remove the re-bar and the mounts at the same time.

this is what the rebar looks like removed. You can assume by the pictures that the bolt holes will be next to your battery and next to your intake.
