Will 2004 sti struts and springs fit onto my 1997 outback wagon and give it a drop?

Don't you have to use different rear top hats however?

Anyone have a pic of the drop size.. I'm kind of interested in a set of these perhaps as well.. even though I picked up a set of bilsteins/GTB springs.

Anyone have any clue if you can use the GTB springs with say KYB struts or something?

Also.. why are the sti struts so special? Couldn't you get an even better set.. say like KYB made for the sti or something? Or are the sti struts themselves special? Where could you obtain a new set? Or is that even possible.. ? You would think it would be.

Last but not least.. what is the difference between the various sti struts (black & red)??

Sorry to hijack your thread. haha. Maybe this will give you some more ideas / info.

Not if the set you buy has them. which is always the best way of doing it
usually from imported parts/ cuts or someone who has upgraded to coilovers

you probably can, but the Bilsteins have different spring perch heights and hence spring lengths as compared with GT legacy or any WRX/ STi

they're not really "special" they're just a good design that seems to last very well, provide good handling with their own springs or other matched springs and they're cheap and readily available.
I believe you can buy just the replacement strut inserts for them from Koni?

I can't confirm but i believe the black STi struts are the early GC8 versions and were a "standard" strut.
whereas the pink/ red ones were the later, inverted-monotube design.

Anyone have pictures of a BD with this setup?

+1 on pics of a BD with the setup.

Also.. why do the sti strut / spring setups from stock seem so damn hard to come by? Seems like the BD's unfortunately have very little choice when it comes to suspension.

go to my member's ride thread for pics, thats the setup that I had on my BD.

Quick bump with a question though, will this setup, 04 STi goods bolt right up to a BC Legacy SS? =P

Was the drop noticable? Its hard to tell from the pictures you uploaded. How was the ride?

The drop for mine was honestly maybe .5 inch lower than stock with a slighted sag in the rear which is what the paranoid fabrications saggy butt spacers are for. Wagon struts or springs from wrx's can do it but sti's just don't have the option. However even with the slightest sag, it's stance was good with 17's.

Honestly there was some rub with like over 3 people or 350 lb in the back but the ride was so much stiffer and tight it always inspire confident spirited driving

This drop was more insane. Phantom coilovers FTW!! J/k

If your looking for a dratic drop, there are some budget coilover systems out there. Check here and the RS25 classifieds. I got mine through the RS board.

Theres no spacers for STi's?

.5 inch seems about what i want, I'm looking for only a slight drop because it is still my DD and it snows a lot here.
