Borla Header Question

Ive heard some were that installing a borla header stops the boxer growl. Is this true ?

Unequal length headers allow for the signature Subaru sound to remain. Besides, the boxer 4 design is your main purpose for that sound, so most exhausts won't "remove" that great sound we've all come to love.

yeah, I'm not getting the whole equal vs unequal length discussion pertaining to sound just yet.

I understand that borla sounds good, but I don't think its entirely because of the fact that they're unequal. for instance, PWT is using stock headers (equal length) and he has a nice boxer rumble with just a catback.

I'm not in denial or anything, i just don't see how that is what is the determining factor. I would think that the materials of the exhaust would be more of a factor than the length.

Maybe the bends have more to do with it, and equal length headers have sharper bends (in general)???

But borla doesn't ruin the boxer sound, at all!!! It sounds great :)

mark... it's most likely due to how the exhaust gas pulses flow through the different headers... hence why the equal vs. unequal have different sounds.

Like Spencer just said, it is very likely that you can get different sound wave cancelation with unequal vs. equal length piping. Thus a different sound. Of course different pipe bending (sharp bends vs. smooth bends) will also allow for a slightly different sound. Now I'm not saying you could make a Subaru sound like a Honda or a Beretta/Corsica/Cavalier, (and why would you??) each exhaust can have a different sound/exhaust note.

Borla's sound really good I had them on my 2001 RS 4 years ago, they use to brake all the time, got two as warranty. They also work pretty good my NA did 14.3 quarter mile ...those days.....:( (miss them)
