anyone have some first hand experience or numbers or anything on the powergain of a k&n panel filter?
i was on knfilters.com but they dont have any numbers on this engine with the panel.. but the cold air induction kit says it makes an additional 14.9hp @ 5050 RPMs. so i estimate the panel filter would be maybe 8hp? does that sound right to anyone else? if not what does sound right?

EDIT: this is on my 06 outback XT (EJ255-06+ WRX motor)

I tossed a drop-in in my EJ255 powered baja turbo back when I had it. It certainly made more noise, but power-wise any gains were minimal or psychological only. The stage 1 tune, however, hehe....made a massive difference. Just imagine what it would do on your OBXT: several hundred pounds lighter and a larger turbo than my car had.

I was always paranoid about the paper filters, but mesh reinforced cloth puts my mind at ease on the durability side of things.

14.8 HP power gain with with the cold air induction kit. Oh i wish it were so easy!

To be honest, i reckon the best thing to do is just use a stock filter, and do a snorkelectomy. If you want a power gain, the real star will be an actual turbo intake pipe like this:

I agree, you won't see much gains if any from just a panel filter change. You will get a little more noise and maybe better gas mileage at best.

My guess is it's 14.8 hp crank. I know K&N dyno-runs their test cars, but they probably 'correct' them for elevation and mechanical drag.

I was unaware the BL/BP bodie LGT's had intake silencers still. If it does, I'd probably do what Reuben is suggesting. What sucks about the LGT is they were rated fairly by subaru at 250chp. The 06-07 WRX, 04-08 FXT, and 04-06 Baja-T were underrated at 227chp, to keep the definable line between the costlier LGT and cheaper other cars.

yeah it sounded too good to be true. although my catalytic converter is all plugged up so its killing my power and MPGs anyways...
