So lately my check engine light has been on, but we took it to autozone and they plugged a device in and it said it had to do with my catalytic converter. So i didn't worry about it cause thats not that big of a deal right? most people just take em off anyways. But lastnight when me and my buds were installing the rally lights we had to disconnect the battery which reset the clock and all that, but now after installation my check engine light isnt on anymore. Does that mean my system can't detect any engine problems now since the warning is gone? Im just a little worried cause if something worse does go wrong i'd wanna know. But here are some pictures of the lights!

all you did was reset the ECU. disconnect battery, then no power to anything.
if anything the CEL will come back after putting some miles on the car.

you will get the code again,
yes, you cleared the code. It will comeback.

nice lights, what switch did you use?

Disconnecting the battery for more then 30 minutes will reset the ECU if I am not mistaken probably clearing the CEL. it'll come back on most likely

Allrighty, thanks everyone! But it actually came with a switch. I have it wired through the hole in the fire wall that comes out right above the gas pedal. And I just finished drilling a hole for it and installing it. Its a bit sloppy but i like it

Cat codes will only turn the check engine light on if the computer detects 3 consecutive cat failures, and the driving pattern needed to check the cat is kind of specific, so it might be a couple weeks before the light comes back on. But as long as it turns on before you start the engine, it still works.

Ground the negative cable to the body of the car for a couple of seconds to reset the cel. This is the best method I have found.
