This may be a dumb question, but here goes..

On A+E last night there was a program about street racing on which hundreds of kids with modded cars would show up to these races. There were a bunch of aftermarket turbos on ridiculous rides, and my question is this. How do any of these kids pass inspection? Do they have to totally strip down their rides to pass emissions? Because in a lot of cases, it would seem like a daunting task.

They dont do emissions testing around here. Plus its really not hard or expensive to "pass"

When they lifted my car up, he checked the signals, high and low beams, and brake lights. then he checked the body for obvious holes. Lastly he looked at my CV axle boots and a few random things under the car. It took about 5 mintues and cost me 25 bucks.

Inspections differ from state to state, and from county to county.

I live in Ohio where there are no safety inspections, only EPA.
And I live in one of 3 counties in the Cleveland area that still require EPA checks.

I guess that makes sense that some states don't have it. Here in MA you have to pass emissions every other year. No aftermarket turbo for me

yeah here we have emissions but our emissions consists of teh gas cap test. thats it. and they do a visual for obvious missing parts, Cat converter and such.

Yeah, I run catless 11 months out of the year, then I swap in my 3" high flow cat for inspection, then swap my test pipe (cat delete) back in. :)

SC has no inspections, NC does, and they screw you too. $36 to just plug your car into the OBDII machine and send it to raleigh. its major bull shit.

yeah, our emissions are retarded too. its like $25 for the regular inspection and like $35 more for the emissions, and all the emissions is they put your gas cap on a machine to test if it seals or something, and if its bad they put a new cap on and charge you like $15 more for a new gas cap also
