Hi

I am currently converting my 1998 legacy station 2.0l from the stock automatic transmission to an old 5mt i had from an old impreza.
Now I have done most of the things i need to do but there is only two problems that are facing me now.
One is that the drive shaft is not long enough, but i got that covered, but the other one, slightly more complex, is that I do not have the names or numbers of the pins, in the engine ECU that I have to change to let both the engine start, and also to make the ECU think this is a manual car rather than automatic.

I have read just about every post i have found on this subject, and I think I'm supposed to "cut the ground wire" for the auto/manual pin, and weld together the two pins that keep the engine from starting (like the clutch must be disengaged swich).

If anybody could give me the information about these pins and what to do with them, or even just a hint on where i can find the schematics for the ECU i would be most grateful.

My ECU is a: 5 J - 22644.AA080 - A56.000.R30

It is not so simple for me to simply try to get another ECU, because I live in Iceland, which, unbelievably does not have a lot of these cars with a manual gearbox.

With regards and thanks, Bragi Sigurkarlsson (that probably sounds like gibberish...)

You don't have to swap the ECU to make the car run/drive. I ran mine on the Auto ECU for a few months, and the worst I had was that it wouldn't idle very well.

As far as the pins, I can't give you any more info there as I didn't take pics, and I don't even have my car here right now. But one that you forgot was the park switch up on the gear lever itself. If you don't short the pins there, you won't be able to take the key out of the ignition. I found all the info by searching, so I know it is out there. Might have to check the Impreza sites too,

there is no ignition key lock on the car, i just want to be able to start it...

how about taking the gear selector swich from the transmission and hook it up to the loose connector that goes from the car to the auto tranny, with the car in park or neutral?

regards , Bragi

What computer did your leggy have? was it the same one? because the input cable into the computer is just one unit, not the usual a couple of cables you plug in, and you can identify with numbers lik p58 r something, all the pins are in a row almost all of them parallel...

Both the auto and manual pcm had a large single connector that was held in with a lever latch.
