I need clarification. I have read everything on here about factory keyless entry and havent found a whole lot about the alpine alarm. (I have read what is on here)

My question is... Once I get the control unit (part number 88035ac210):

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/06/74b0839b-1.jpg

What else do I need to get to make it an alarm as well... It sounds like that box is only for the keyless entry feature. Do I need to source out a bunch of other things to use it as an alarm as well? (Another control box, shock sensors, starter kill, ect) Or is this the entire system???

I do have two factory horns in my car, one behind each headlight, I dont know if that helps or not.

http://www.cars101.com/subaru/keyless.html#alpine #4 on this link makes me think that the alarm feature is optional on the system...

All help is greatly appreciated!

Bump... anybody have any ideas???

I know I have the unit pictured above... but does that automatically mean that I have an alarm too???

If not... what would I need to get(or see if I already have) to have a fuctioning OEM alarm???

Shameful self-bump...

I know that I need the blinking red security light... but what else differentiates the alpine keyless system from the alpine keyless system w/ alarm?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Do I need the control unit listed above??? Is it even possible to get the alarm feature of the Alpine unit if it wasnt originally installed?

I have working keyless entry right now with the factory unit that I pictured in my first post...

Anybody have any ideas???

well the security upgrade gives you the necessary stuff to convert to have the alarm (siren, valet button, disable button, ect) im unsure if you can use the control unit you have..

I am pretty sure that setup with the valet button and disable button is the "code" alarm:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBARU-R ... ccessories (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBARU-Remote-Keyless-Entry-System-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ190427775604QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories)

This is a different system from the Alpine system that they started to use on 1999 vehicles.

According to cars 101... most legacies came with the alpine keyless in 1999 but the alpine alarm feature was optional...

according to opposedforce subaru p/n catalog, the model you have was used from 97-99.. so im unsure what you need for the kit for your model

The white wire is your RF antenna for the keyless remote.

IMHO don't bother with the Subaru system, go aftermarket.

I just really want to find a 99 owner who has the factory system... I want to see what type of remote he has and weather he still has the box I pictured in my first post... or if that one is gone and there is the other style in its place? Or are they both there???

So far I know that there needs to be the security light, another module that controls the lights, and I think a shock sensor too.

the only reason i ask is that I see used ones for sale all the time for less than $50...

well huffer i just found the module underneath the passenger seat...lol thanks P.O.

so i just want to wire it up for now and later ill invest in a viper system or something. u know where the antenna is?

Theres no point wiring the factory system in if youre going to install a viper later. You're creating extra work later on.

My car came with keyless but for some reason the module was taken out. I found it and I plugged it in and it worked. Entered programing mode and the doors toggled lock and unlock.

and for future reference, the white wire is the actual antenna.

i just gotta chime in here.. my 99 outback had the factory alarm and it kinda sucked... i believe (but might be wrong) but the alarm only goes off if the glass breaks. cuz i would arm mine and bump it and shake it and it would never go off. i would go after market. but thats just my experiences with it. something could have not been working on my car or something.

So which module do you have under your steering wheel?

Part number would be REALLY helpful. Also... which remote did it use?

Bumping this instead of making a new thread. How about if your car didn't come with factory alarm/keyess entry, are all the plugs there just need to plug in a module then?

i believe it was a dealer add-on option and there should be some plugs and a few vampire clips (the parallel "h" style, not the T style), or at least thats what my 98 legacy has.

Dude it's only 2011, come back to the present, lol. Also did you notice I bumped it instead of making a new thread, not the usual noob replying to questions six months old.

Don't rag on him. He did the right thing.

ANyway, it depends if your car was built with the harness plugs - sometimes they're not obvious as the factory installers sometimes wrapped them up in tape under the dash. If you look under the driver's dash, you may see a large bundle of harness taped together - cut this very carefully and see what plugs drop out.

Ahh that was the answer I was looking for, I was going to sell my alarm but wanted to make sure the buyer could actually use it.
I didn't mean for it to sound like I was ragging on him just wanted make sure eli didn't get ragged on for me bumping a thread that was only four months old.

Ok so I know this is plenty old... but i thought that I just had a keyless entry system because I have no red blinking light by my steering wheel and the alpine alarm.

I know I have the alpine keyless entry because I used those instructions to program my new remote and it worked.

Today I got to work and as I was walking away from my car I locked it with the keyless entry button on my keychain. As I walked away I noticed that it looked like my hood was popped (not all the way open but just popped) So I went over to it and went to unlock/lift it up to shut it securely. As soon as I lifted it, my horn beeped once and then instantly started to go off... like an alarm.

So I guess I do have a factory alarm in my car... but I dont have a special remote or a red blinkey light?!?!?!

Anybody else have this factory setup or am I missing something?

elislider
03-28-2011, 11:48 PM
was that the only time youve ever heard/seen the alarm go off?

harrymaneuvers
03-29-2011, 10:00 AM
It sure was... even if I lock myself in the car with the keyless remote, then open the door from the inside, it doesnt go off.

I want to find out how I turn on the exterior lights flashing when I arm/disarm but all the info I can find mentions the red security light by the fog light switch... which I dont have.

elislider

you have to crack the keyless module and modify the dip switches. however, idk which ones

harrymaneuvers
03-29-2011, 11:05 PM
wow really?

I didnt think i had to do all of that... I thought I could do some sort of a keypad/ignition/door open combo.

I wanted to add a keyless entry for my 97 outback and it looks like I need part number 88035AC210 ?? From what I understand it's already prewired but not connected.

The last owners had a aftermarket crimestopper system but no remotes.. and the system was disconnected, as soon as I connected it the alarm went off.
