Hey guys, it's been a bit. Either way I have another issue.
I've been trying to get my JDM STI cluster from a BG5 Auto to work in my BK4 manual, but all works besides the tach, and installing the gauges made my CEL go off (I suspect the ECU getting signals for sensors not installed). I'm only really worried about the tach though, and I can tell the pin layout and flimsy circuit on the back are different.
Can I just swap in the tach from my domestic gauges and make it work? Or does anyone have a site I can use to get the diagrams for the electrical? I've bee ntrying to find diagrams so far but no luck. Even the great Google has failed me so far......

Well you plugged in a 4EAT cluster that is looking for TSC/FWD/ A/T temp so the CEL's could be caused by that. You should of sourced out a 5MT cluster but that is not the issue now.

If you PM YamazakiSubaru (Japan Subaru Guru) he should have the diagrams you need but don't expect him to rush them to you.

Look at the USDM FSM and find the section that deals with "Engine speed output" this is section that will tell you which wire is for the RPM signal.

Personally i have swapped USDM tachs from one cluster to another but all of them have been 5MT not 4EAT. You can give it a shot but I warn you now pulling the needles off is a PITA and putting them back on in the right place is even harder.

Good luck

I'll probably just sell them back then. What a waste of $240.

Dont give up. Think of the good you can do for SLi if you figure this out :-D

What do you mean by the CEL "went off?" Does that mean it came on? Or off? I ask because I know that (at least for pre-OBDII models) a lot of Japanese cars didn't have a CEL. Not sure if the OBDII models do or not.

Also keep in mind that the turbo models use coil-on-plug, which requires different signals from the PCM and a different setup (probably without an external igniter) assuming it is sequential ignition and not just firing pairs of coils at a time. The tach gets its signal from the PCM, but that doesn't mean the signal is the same.

Well, just in case anyone cares, I completed my STI fakie gauges. I decided to use a stock base and swap over the speedo. I also rolled the odometre from 59k~ to 275k (I discovered a trick) and swapped the needle for the tachometer to the STI one. Not hard really.

Oh shit, If only I saw your post before I destroyed the gauges. They weren't reading right at all. The speedo was about 12% off target, the tach had me idling at 3500 and set to 2k when the car was off, and the gas stayed at 1/2 regardless of actual gas level, but dropped to empty when the car was off. Oh, and the water heat was always at overheated. I got pissed and destroyed the gauges. Now I'm customizing mine.
