so i was mowing my fathers grass when i get a call from him. apparently my speedyracer headers that i bought for my 99 L wagon do not fit, as they are the 90-94 design according to my mechanic who works on nothing but subarus.

does anyone else find this weird?

(yes this is my first post. but. im a long time lurker ;)]

He very well could have just sent you the wrong item. Just call him up and let him know that they don't fit... you might need to be ready with the mechanics explanation as to why exactly they don't fit.

Is there any sort of part number stamped in the headers anywhere?

not that i know of. apparently my mechanic says that the flange that connects to the cat is facing the wrong way. i dont see how because iv mocked them up and it should line right up. also the headers i received are the exact same ones that are in the picture so im not exactly sure what wrong with them. its all very discouraging. but ill have ac and cruise when i get my car back! always a bright side to life right?

wait, if you have an 99 L, you should have Phase 2 2.2. i thought those has Single port heads, that alone would make this header useless for your car...

please somebody correct me if im wrong, i dont know much about the phase 2 2.2s

see. my car has a 2.5 in it. somewhere along its life the previous owner must have blown the 2.2 and had a 2.5 put in. this also coming from my mechanic who has like thirty years of experience working on subarus

ok, well i have no idea then. unless it has something to do with the 2.2 exhaust still being in place, or something like that. but i have never heard of a problem like this. either way a little bit of cutting and welding should make it work anyway.

yeah im thinking about taking it to an exhaust shop and having them put it on. i just find it weird that he would say it was for the earlier models even though im almost positive all the older model designs were single port correct?

no single port was actually 97+ 2.2s

hmm well then. quick question then does the ej251 which is what im almost positive my engine is have dual or single port heads?

In my experience, its the California regulation emission 2.2s which appear to be single port (2 of mine have been anyhow)... any chance you have a 2.5 with 2.2 single port heads? Also, have you ever confirmed that it is actually a 2.5? (EJ25 stamped on block somewhere)

A pic of your current exhaust may not be a bad idea to help these guys figure our your scenario.

see its weird cause my block says its an ej22 i think it may be the heads im not sure. all i know is that my mechanic said that it was an ej25 whenever i got my clutch fork fixed earlier this year.

You could easily solve all this if you just have your mechanic put it up on the lift and then look at the exaust headers currently attached to the block, then look at the flange on the new ones and see if its the same. May help answer some questions about what engine you have as well.

If the block casting says EJ22, you have an EJ22, regardless of what your mechanic says.

Phase 2 2.2s are single port from what I've seen. Every one I've seen are single port. EJ251 is dual port, but if your block says EJ22, you don't have an EJ251.

The headers pictured have the cat flange facing the correct direction for any 2G Legacy.

upon further discussion with my mechanic today. i supposivly have a frankenmotor. i got a 2.5 block with the old phase 2 2.2 heads on it. soooo no dual port headers for me. so. they are now gunna be put up for sale. offers anyone?

StatGSR

you sure they are old 2.2 heads? cause 99 was the first year for phase 2 heads, and using old heads should have required substantial wiring changes (i think),take some pictures of the heads/valve covers and post them up.

well. they would be the 99 heads. plus my stock manifold bolt pattern is for the 2.2 single port heads so im assuming that that means i got phase2 2.2 heads on a 2.5 block if in fact my car is a 2.5.

no single port was actually 97+ 2.2s

To clear this up it was a mix in 96. My 96 has single port exhaust.

yeah, I've had a couple of both. Cali has been the only thing consistent across them, my feds have each been dual port.
Did this guy get pics yet? TTIWWOP... I'm guessing the seller just lied to him and he ate it all up?
