So I just wondering if anyone on the board listens to dubstep? What the hell is Dubstep you may ask.. well its an evolution of electrion music genres (breakbeat, grime, wobble, drum and bass) If so does anyone care to post up some tunes?

Ya dubstep exploded this year. Rusko took the genre by storm and just evolved it even further.

My roots have been simple. Hip-Hop -> Breaks -> Dubstep.

Drum and Bass is just to fast same with jungle.. Love the sound of breaks with the sinister sounds that is dubstep!

Comeon' D1gi post up some tunes.

I'm a big DnB fan. Almost anything produced by Moving Shadows is awesome by me. I especially like Calyx, Dom and Roland, Culture Shock, etc... so, of course I found Dubstep and got into that too.

One of my favorite tunes by Caspa & Rusko.

My true love is with Trip Hop though. Chuck and d1gi, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

Caspa and Rusko dirty Duo but Caspa is a little strange on his own personally..

And trip hop oh baby!! Hip-Hop -> Trip-Hop -> and then i found NINJA TUNES!! some of the nicest sliced samples man can put together.

The problem with mainstream dubstep is that there is very little original material; most of it is just remixes of 2000's trance/progressive trance. I get the feeling like it is a dead-end genre, but who knows, I could be proven wrong if something new comes about for the genre.

I listened to a few dubstep songs a while back and never got into it big, but buacause of this thread i'm giving it another chance. I made a dubstep pandora station earlier today and have been listening to it... its not bad, but I thing its growing on me.

you got to be picky when it comes to dubstep. The majority of the tracks out there are standard cookie cutter formula.

Whoomp whoomp. wap wap wap wap... its very annoying personaly but every now again you find epic, killer, bangin' tunes like posted above.

Streaming from a dubstep feed can be hit or miss.. Stuff from Benga, Skream, Datsik etc.. are pretty bland and not as heavy as some of the others. 16 bit, Zeds Dead, Flux Pavillion, Nero, Rusko, etc.. are more party music then just head bobin'

Its similar to drum n base ask d1gi and he can tell you the same shit applies to almost all types of music.

Don't brush it off.. it takes time to get into it and if you follow the links i posted then you should have a good start.

well i listen to skrillex not because he is more "mainstream" but because the songs just sound right to me. What i mean by right is that a lot of the songs i have heard have a very wierd kind of beat that doesn't follow the 4 beat pattern if thats what you want to call it. Also a lot of people use too much or not enough effects or they put effects in a spot they just dont work very well. I play guitar and stuff so i sometimes have a keen ear to something that just does not soud right to me so my music range isn't very broad in the dubstep department, but what i do listen to i love.

my take on these: Fytch he kind of left some things hanging like he didnt finish the four step progression but for only 16 thats pretty good, poltergeist was ok once it dropped i couldnt hear anything but a lot of bass lines dropped in one area but when i listened to it agian it sounded decent, giant i just couldnt listen too because he kind of built it up making it sound like there was gonna be a heavy drop and then he used a high pitched distorted bass kind of sound and it killed it for me, chasing shadows was pretty good i could enjoy that, i also like flux pavillion too so no complaints there (bass cannon is another awesome one by them), toxicity was absolutely terrible for me i love the original of the song but they chewed it to hell IMO i couldnt take that one, the nirvana one was pretty good also its something i can listen too.

Oh wow... and that there is why everyone has a different opinion towards dubstep.

I dropped Giant - Party Starter at a festival last year and they went nuts!!

I guess its hard to judge a tune from the interwebs... quality is so restricted compared to playing it on club speakers..

...

50 Carrot.... hmmmmmmm.. some serious bass line business.. Its decent but I could never listen to this .. for me a melody or rhythm is what makes the tune.

i agree 100% on the judging from just vids on youtube lol but i feel like everyone without knowing it has a "stock" sound in there head that is the perfect song and anything that is relevant to that is what they like if you know what i mean by that

I'm a big UK guy and LOVE dubstep! Skepta, pendulum but the best has to be Deadmau5!

chuckthefuk
02-09-2012, 10:58 AM
prodriver u sure your in the right parts of UK?

Deadmau5 made 1 dubstep tune.. he does not like the genre..
Pendulum makes dnb or Pendulum LIVE makes weird real dnb.. they are nnow known Knife Party IIRC..
Skepta is a MC?

Just sayin'

its the fact that without UK shows like Ideal and Misfits I would have never heard of dubstep, I didnt mean thats where they were born or anything. Its more of a UK thing thats the only time I hear it.

^Pendulum The Island Pt2....stuff hits well

In related news Skrillex won three Grammys...and continues the dubstep confusion (personally dig some of the beats, but have moved on to more underground stuff)

Ya Bruv!!

LoL.. you want energy.. a few days ago NERO came to Toronto.. talk about flipping ones lid.. I am uploading 20 mins of the set..

Dubstep isn't for everyone ... for the most part its slower then dnb and focuses its energy on the drops instead of the build ups and breakdowns.

Check this out.
