I havn't seen any on a N/A motors since you will loss all back pressure and make less then 100 HP :-p
My buddy has this on his Turbo GC when he goes to the track, saves him time so he doesn't have to swap out his exhaust for a race pipe. It works but with some issues.
1) The flap tends to stick in the open/closed position
2) The bolts that hold the unit together tend to vibrate out
3) Its so damn loud for street use.
Cheers

really I didn't even know it would cause more noise. i wanted to maybe get one to silence the exhaust when needed.

you must have the idea of an exhaust cut out backwards. its so you can have a quiet (full exhaust, cut out is closed) and open it up to a strait exhaust (bypass mufflers and resonators).
technically you could use it to route exhaust through two differant complete systems, but that not something anybody usually does because of space and weight.

you can get exhaust control valves, to control noise when needed. like one of these

It wouldn't do much for performance, but it would be a cool novelty to hit a switch and make the exhaust louder.

pretty much what comes standard on my 98 E36 328i. but without an incar switch. At a certain RPM, 1 of the flaps in the exhaust tips opens for a more deep rumble..... Gawd I love this car =)

Not on our subaru's. His BMW has sport tuned exhaust, its piped diferently.
If you install the control valve you will have this result.
Off = Open (stock sound)
On (x* amount of degrees|) = Quieter exhaust tone

Iv installed them for people in the past at the shop I work at and their nothing but trouble. They stick or quit working all together all the time and their really expensive for what you get, but its cool wile they work

mm okay well I keep hearing stuff about them so I'm just going to stick with having a load exhaust.

why don't you just add a resonator to your exhaust if you want to quiet it down?
