Hello,

Has anyone with a BE/BH changed their steering wheel to an after-market wheel? My airbag went off yesterday, for no apparent reason. I have checked the front and sides of the car for damage and no damage is visible. I have removed the steering wheel cover and airbag ( I cannot drive with the airbag hanging off the steering wheel) and need to replace my steering wheel. I have an aftermarket wheel that I took of my wrecked Neon but I need a hub that will help it fit. I have a couple of ideas to fit the CC on the column trim panels (it'll take some work) but I really need to replace the wheel and hub it is an eyesore...

I have searched this and other sites for hubs that might fit but all I have found are for Imprezas and older Leggies.

Will an Impreza hub fit? Or an STI hub? I am on a bit of a budget so getting quick release hubs and such is not an option.

To re-cap. I have an aftermarket wheel so all I'd need to spend on is a hub and a resistor? to clear this damn airbag light.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The BH/BE steering column is the same as any 02-04 WRX or STI, and the same as any 95-00 Legacy. You may need to swap the clockspring or cruise control lever, but they'll plug n play. I know for sure a 2003 WRX Momo wheel will work.

However, Grant steering wheels now offer Airbag options... don't know if any of them will work, but it's work a look.

If you have an aftermarket wheel all you need is a hub adaptor, and a way to fool the airbag system, or you can just pull the SRS fuse in the fusebox.

Much Obliged Huffer,

I have found and purchased a nice 12" Momo for cheap. I just need to find a local place that sells the hub now...

2001-on Subaru WRX hub, here I come...

Before you drop $$$$$ on aftermarket parts you could try fixing whats broke.

I had the same issue... Sort of.. My air bag light would go on randomly. No damage, no broken wires everything was in tact..

However my horn would stop working sometimes as well. Turns out it was a faulty clockspring .. $10 later and the problem was fixed.

Thanks for the advice Chuck but for me that means getting a new Subaru steering wheel since the airbag actually went off. It exploded an was hanging out of my steering wheel. I guess I could just spend lots of $$$ on another subaru steering wheel but I dont want to spend that much.

I know the hub won't be that much and that is all I'll have to spend on.

I used a hub for a 97-06 Mitsubishi Galant. I think it's also the same as the eclipse hub and probably a bunch of other ones.

Splines were the same, wheel bolted up no problem. Never got the horn or turn signal cancel working though, but also never cared.
