View Full Version : Front struts for 97 legacy
I've got a bad front strut on my 97 Legacy wagon, and the owner of my local alignment shop suggested just getting ONE from a local junkyard.
I really don't like the idea of going through the work to replace them and the expense to get an alignment, just to have them go out again in a short time, so, after checking around, the best prices I came up with are some Monroe Senseatraks, with a lifetime warranty, for about $62 each, or, some AC Delcos, with only a 30 day warranty (because they are obsolete stock) for $42 each.
Does anybody have any thoughts??
Thanks in advance!!

If you're not planning on doing anything with the car in terms of lowering etc, just get a Monroe strut with a warranty.
If you're planning on modding, do it now while you have an excuse...

daily driver- monroe. good basic strut for a daily drive with good ride. not too bouncy but not to stiff
daily driver/ mild lower - kyb gr2. offer a little stiffer valving then oem and other aftermarket, but not to much. tend to hold up to lowering springs
always do struts in pairs. so you have an even handling characteristics
It is just a daily driver that I'm letting my step-daughter drive.
I was leaning towards the Monroes because they have a lifetime warranty, as compared to the AC Delcos which only have a 30 day warranty, but, the AC Delcos are 2/3 the price of the Monroes.

Round here the Monroes are famous for bending, and being crappy in general. They wear out much faster than KYB or OEM, and, of course, wear is not covered by warranty, just defects & etc. Kinda like the lifetime warranty on brake pads, lol.
You don't have to do an alignment if you mark the position of the camber bolt is in (it is the bottom-most bolt on the front struts), step 15 in this guide:
