Perrin/Kartboy Subframe locking bolts on an Outback?

I've got a pair of Perrin rear subframe locking bolts, but because of the Outback's body spacers, the aren't long enough. Also, the little metal insert doesn't slide all the way up into the holes in the subframe.

Can I just get a longer bolt and use it with Perrin's insert? Also, when I tighten it down, is it supposed to pull the insert through the subframe and push the metal in?

Yup you should be able to replace the bolts since they are standard hardware and the only thing your paying for are the sleeves (inserts)

So the metal in the subfrme gets smashed in by the insert as you tighten the bolt down?

The insert is tapered so it slowly goes in and eventually applies pressure (360 degrees) into the subframe. This eliminates the stock rubber bushings / any shifting or movement.

So yes it gets "smashed" into the subframe by "bolting" it down :-p

With the addition of these bolts, I will have done every possible driveline-stiffening mod possible.

Did you get the diff mounts not the outriggers..
Did you get the transmission cross member bushings??
Did you get the diff brace?
Did you get the GRP N trans mount / pitch stop?
Did you get the shifter linkage pivot from TiC?

I have:

Perrin rear diff mounting bushings
Kartboy outrigger bushings
Group N Engine/Transmission mounts
Brand new shifter pivot
Kartboy shifter bushings
(and soon to have subframe locking bolts)

But alas, I don't have the Kartboy transmission crossmember bushings, or the pitch stop, but I didn't think the pitch stop did much for the whole setup anyway.

I picked up some longer bolts at the hardware store, then blasted the threads with PB Blaster, and in they went!

The thread pattern is M12x1.25 just in case someone was wondering.

what is the benifit of stiffening the driveline?

It makes the engine's power go straight to the wheels, rather than wasted twisting a crap load of soft, bubble gum bushings. My car used to lurch like crazy when going on or off the throttle in gear. Now it has an amazing tight feel to it all.

Plus its freaking loud. I can hear the differential, transmission, and gears all whining, and the engine roars because of the Group N engine mounts. I love it.

I actually did the Group N mounts in my N/A days. WELL worth it.

if i went and looked to buy those...they would fall under what make/model... im highly doubting legacy

As for that collar, I believe not all Legacys then will go all the way in. It is tapered and as long as you got most of that bolt in you should be fine. Mine sticks out 1/4" and I had no problems. Group N mounts on a N/A application is a must, specially on standards.

Zeus, the Group N mounts work for any Subaru.


Yeah, my bolts stick out a little. They aren't supposed to stop up and down movement of the subframe, only side to side.
