View Full Version : loose shifter - legacy L 5spd wagon

i have a "new to me" 95 subaru legacy L wagon. (5 spd, 204,000 mi)

the shifter is a little loose and i have to fish around to get it into 3rd.

when i go to 4th i sometimes get a short mechanical buzzing kind of noise and can feel it in the shifter (but it's definitely not a gear grinding noise).

transmission otherwise feels good. no slipping, etc.

is the loose shifter problem an easy fix?

need to replace all the shifter bushings. they get old and sloppy

is that a pretty easy fix? can it be done from inside the car?

car would need to bet raised for you to replace all of them. it not hard if you can turn a wrench.
