I have an aftermarket desk (which sucks) so I figured I coudlnt screw it up anymore. I decided I wanted an all black look in my interior, so I'm painting my headunit face flat black. Heres it all dissasembled

I couldnt get the see through plastic off, so I just taped it and I hope it will look decent. The silver underneath the pastic is kindof tinted anyway (as shown in the above picture)

Black! Im not sure if it will turn out as I hopedl, but theres no going back now. It matches the plastic black pretty well actually.

really good idea, the HU I just put it is silver and kinda annoys me.. but I have the somewhat reddish(?) interior I'm not gonna waste my time figuring out what color would look good with it

Here it is unmasked. I couldnt wait any longer

All put back together. I think it looks awesome! The only thing that really sticks out is the silver around the buttons, but thats pretty hard to see while its in the car. Also the volume knob is really shiny but oh well.

Painted (bottom) vs plastic (top) It matches really well!

Its in the car and it looks good in the dark, now I just have to wait until its light!

great, Lee!

I tried doing this...I found that my faceplate isn't removable from the deck (I'm not referring to the security feature either). I was originally trying to replace the lighting

Heres the finshed product! It matches the plastic about as much as every other stock piece in the car matches

compared to what it used to look like

Im happy with it, although the volume knob is blingtastic now.

you have a new cupholder too ;)

Looks good, Lee! Luckily I want my deck to contrast the bezel a little, so I'm not going to risk messing around with that. You do some nice work :)

Before my mom traded in her 99 outback I switched cupholders. This one doesnt have the ugly button and one of the holes is bigger

Looks good. When I put in my Alpinne cda-9853 i was amazed cause the color matches perfect with my interior.

the numbnuts that had the car before me painted all the trim pieces silver. I hope to do something about that this summer.

Yeah, Id never paint trim pieces. Id get sick of it so fast and it ruins the resale of the car

interesting. i have a similar kenwood deck but I painted the trim pieces and like it that way better. i also have no intention of reselling.
