My friend who is a very competent mechanic swapped the auto trans out of my 98 LGT wagon and replaced it with a manual out of a 98 Legacy L. At eh same time, we had the flywheel (also from a 98 LGT) resurfaced, and got a new exceedy clutch kit. Engine had the heads resurfaced, all seals replaced etc. All of the necessary wiring for the backup lights etc. was done correctly. The only thing still outstanding to be done is the abs pump.
The big problem is that as soon as the car is revved past 2k, it has a pretty noticeable shake to it. It does not matter if the car is moving or not, or if the clutch is engaged or not.
The car is not throwing any codes, the plugs and wires are all new and are not arcing anywhere. We tried replacing the coil pack and that made no difference.
A leakdown test was performed, and everything was in spec with the exception of one exhaust valve with a 13% loss which does not seem like it should cause this sort of problem.
We thought it might be the flwheel, so it was just removed, and checked for balance, but it checked out fine.
After seemingly eliminating any internal engine or balance problems, I'm at the end of my rope, what the heck should we check next? Any help is greatly appreciated.
