View Full Version : does my car have an alarm?

i have an 04 subaru legacy 35anniversary edition

when i bought the car, all i got was a key, which has a chip in it

no key fab

when i lock the doors manually, the lights all blink and the car beeps

does this mean i have an alarm?

sorry for the stupid question, but everyone says i GOTTA have one if all that is happening when i lock the doors, but ive never been able to set it off?

im interested in finding out because i want to add a remote start and if i dont have an alarm ill add one at the same time

Most likely you do... I think if you look under your dash above your pedals... you should see a black box that says either keyless entry or alarm on it.

Super easy way to find out is to call a subaru dealership, or one of the many only subaru parts dealers (most of them are dealerships anyways) and give them your vin #... they will tell you if your car came with it from the factory... and if it did... they can give you a part number for your remote so that you can buy one on ebay if you want to. I got my keyfob on ebay a week or so ago for $24 shipped and it looks brand new.

Yea the parts counter will help you out. Just make sure you have your vin ready. They will be able to tell you all the factory equipment/options that your car came with.

ok so i called. they told me that it is set up with keyless entry but he said he wouldnt be able to tell me wether or not theres an alarm in it. any easy way to find out?

I think if your lights flash when you lock up... then yes.

Also... did you poke your head under the steering wheel to see which black boxes you could find... I have a feeling you will have two... one for keyless entry and another for the alarm (shock sensor, lights, ect.)

hmm.. ive never set it off and ive rocked my car around. ill have to get under there tomorrow and check it out.. ive spent all day under my car, my back needs a rest lmao

any easy way to set it off? and if it does go off, can i just put the key in and "unlock" it to shut the alarm off if it does go off?

Hit the lock button on the door of the car and shut the door. The car should beep as the door shuts.

it does beep, how would i set it off? see if it really works

and if i dont have a clicker, will only the key be able to disable the alarm if it does go off?

Lock yourself inside and open the door. The alarm should sound.

It will if you key is programmed, but leave the hood popped to disconnect the battery.

When I lock my doors and then the last open one is closed, the car beeps and all the lights flash. It's a 2003 Legacy L, which I believe is that same as yours?

I don't have an alarm on mine.

So this is the question I am trying to find out for myself as well...

Cars 101 says that we should all have the same keyless system.

I know for a fact that Mine has this in it because I just found it under the dash about a month ago and bought a used keyfob off of ebay and programmed it...

What I cant figure out... is what is included in the alarm upgrade.

I have the unit pictured in the first post...

My lights dont flash but my horn will sound when the last locked door is shut.

I found out today that the security upgrade for my car is part number H7110AS900, which I cant seem to find much about. But I know it includes a zone EPU, the LED light for the dash, some relays and mounting screws.

so im still procrastonating on gettin my face under there to check it out.. i gotta re-wire my green leds for the two front seats so i gotta get under there reguardless. so, what it sounds like, i can take my factory keyless unit, and add an alarm feature to it with a few simple wire hook ups?

when i called subaru, the guy on the other end wasnt able to tell me anything about the alarm feature and wether or not i got it

hopefully ill be able to get a simple add on

if not, ill opt for an aftermarket alarm with remote start

any feed back or prefrences/experiances
