How do you like that ebay intake, and what exactly is the purpose of the rigged padded tubing going over it? To keep it from bouncing around? I'm thinking about getting an eBay kit, found for for 19.99 + shipping.

Looks good dude!

thanks, I like the intake, I can definetly feel the power increase. The padding is for filling the slight gap inbetween the heat shield and the hood so less heat can get through. Yea that's about what I paid for mine, it cost me 50 dollars for every thing which Is a whole lot less than the 100+ one I was going to buy from cosmo.

I'm gonna have to follow this because I plan on building my '93 Legacy into a gen. one sus. Just that no one parts outbacks in my area so used parts are hard to find.

What is that box thing on the intake.

bulldozer24
11-24-2010, 09:24 AM
What is that box thing on the intake.

The MAF sensor is the black box an the metal is a heat shield to help stop heat from the engine from getting to the air filter. You know the whole thing about colder air means more power.

If that's what your asking?

gero808
11-24-2010, 09:44 AM
I was asking about the black box that you said was the MAF

Look at your strut tower where the VIN plate is. It should say Trim-Code and Color-Code.

My outback is code - 610

Any bodyshop can mix you paint just give them those codes.

01-14-2011, 06:23 PM
Fancy interior :-D

If you want some bling bling.. you can put almost any ebrake in with some persuasion of course. The 04' STi ebrake is a nice upgrade with its fancy stitching and chrome release button.

Also if you find a JDM center console those are very functional upgrades if your a tall person. The Arm rest is a double unit which raises the arm rest by an inch or two. and the cell phone resting spot in front of the shifter has a nice compartment that the USDM version does not.

Just options thats all.. Keep up the good work and I like the DIY you made.. Straight and to the point.

Cheers

Thanks, I am planning on redoing the headliner with a black fabric so i can get all of the tan out of their. My only problem is the sun visors i just cant seem to find any that are black.

chuckthefuk
01-14-2011, 06:50 PM
Spray fabric dye is a perfect solution. Spend the extra few dollars on the better brand at Auto Zone and you wont have any issues. 3x coats and 24 hours to cure. Then a light scrubbing with soap and water will remove any potential dye that will come off in the future :-D

Even in high-traffic areas the dye holds up like the door card insert.

Cheers and you can also make the "My Ride" in your signature a link instead of having the viewtopic url..

PM if you need HTML help or anything thats what I am here for.

Let me know what you decide on the visors. I tried to do mine by wrapping it in the suede. But it didn't work so well only because you have so much tucking and trimming to do. And the part where the visor gets held to the car its a real PITA. I removed mine and it would never go back in.

I changed the rear diff fluid today. I'm pretty sure it had never been changed before.

I like what youre doing. Our interiors are going to look the same. I dyed that back piece black. Doing my headliner is black suede. Did my door cards in black suede. I taped off the plastic covers on the visors and then used the fabric dye on it. Doesn't look half bad. if you want a picture let me know.

well it took forever but i finally got it done. I used two bottles of black rit dye to get it done. this whole process would have been a whole lot easier if the previous owner hadn't used self tapping screws that were completely inaccessible to attach the headliner. :smt013

here is a pic but it looks a whole lot blacker in person. i might need a new camera

Thanks I wrote a DIY on the heat shield it is in the DIY section.

If you want to paint the bar red you will need to scuff it up first with some 500 or 600 grit sand paper so the paint will have something to stick to. Just do about three light coats of paint and two coats of clear any you should be fine.

First off i did a complete exterior detail and gave the taillights a few light coats of tint.

Then I made a radiator shroud out of some scrap metal but i think it came out pretty good.

Looks pretty nice! I also liked the hybrid intake much better than a cone filter.

That outback is massive compared to your car!

What color green did you use to paint your underhood stuff? Been looking for a nice dark green without sparkles

Well it all started about a week ago with a leak from the sunroof and i knew i had to get that fixed right away. I had tried to remove the headliner before but i just could figure it out why it would come down after removing all of the different trims. So I finaly got fed up with dealing with this and went at my headliner with a knife.

And this is what i found
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/06/100_0141-1.jpg

There were tons of these self tapping screws everywhere and when i finally got it down this what was left of the headliner.

Well this leaves me searching for a new headliner so if anyone has one for sale please let me know

I just got my own SUS about two months ago, and I like the things you're doing with yours!
Two questions, when you get around? First, what do you use for the exterior? And, (I'm new to most things automotive) what makes the latest intake hybrid? It seems to just skip the upper "box" - second filter? - that mine has stock.
Nice car! Good luck with the headliner.

I would re-wrap your head liner. reinforce it with wire on the other side.

I know where an SUS is at a yard... I bet I could get it cheap. Only problem is shipping the dumb thing..

Thanks, and as for the the exterior im not sure what your asking for, detailing products? and the intake is just taking out the torque box and tubing. ill dig up a thread you should read through.

well I have been getting lazy again and not updating this. I purchased a set of subaru steelies with general altimax arctic snow tires with 7k on them for 250 bucks! I thought it was a pretty good deal. I the proceeded to paint them safety orange, they dont look that bright in the picture because they are covered in dirt and salt. I made yet another light bar and mounted a set of hella 500ff.

pics!

well I think i have taken this car as far as i want with the modding but its been a good run and this car. It has served me well but i think its time to move on to a new car.

I will be creating a vehicle for sale thread in a few days so keep your eyes open. For the first week after posting the thread i will be offering the car with most of the current mods but after that week I will start returning it to stock and will be putting it up for sale locally.

Also as a side note after i missed my first opportunity to buy a baja turbo 5 speed i have kicked myself everyday. so if any one knows any remotely close to western NC let me know.
